Founded in 1878 as Ashland College, the name of the institution was changed to Ashland University on May 12, 1989. This change was a practical and logical step based on the institution's many diverse undergraduates, graduate, and professional programs. Ashland continues to have a rich tradition as a private, comprehensive institution preparing students for exciting professions and careers. The University consists of four academic colleges -- College of Arts & Sciences, Dauch College of Business & Economics, Schar College of Education and Schar College of Nursing and Health Sciences -- and the Graduate, Online, and Adult Studies the Founders School for Continuing Education and Ashland Theological Seminary. Ashland University places great emphasis on the importance of each individual. The phrase "Accent on the Individual" has been our motto for many years and characterizes well the nature and content of the campus environment. Ashland Seminary, a graduate division with campuses in Ashland, Detroit, Cleveland, and Columbus, integrates theological education with Christ-centered transformation. Consistent with that of the liberal arts, the core curriculum promotes the development of the wise person as well as transferable, lifelong skills. The Honors Program offers academically talented students cross-disciplinary experiences and an intellectual community devoted to discussion and dialogue. The Bookstore is the one-stop for textbooks AU clothing and gifts school, art, and dorm supply general reading books and technology products. LearnAU is the Instructional Design and Instructional Technology group that assists with entirely Online Classes, Hybrid Courses, and Web-Enhanced courses. AU Library, the tallest building on campus, provides a wide variety of services and resources for students, faculty, and staff. The Office of Institutional Diversity seeks to support institutional excellence through initiatives that advance the University's Diversity and Strategic plans while fostering civility and respect for the value of all. Committed to a multidimensional approach, the Office will use qualitative and quantitative data as the compass for plotting its course to create and prioritize plans which make for an ever-improving Ashland University. At Ashland's College of Business and Economics, you gain both practical skills and theory taught in classrooms where you will receive lots of one-on-one attention. The College is also proud to include the Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurial Studies devoted to the encouragement of the entrepreneurial spirit and fan the fires of innovation that bring new business ideas to our community and world.
