  1. Welcome to St Thomas the Apostle we are an 11-18 boys Catholic school with a co-educational sixth form. We are currently ranked (according to the Department for Education performance tables) as the 11th highest performing school in the country in terms of the progress our students make (+0.91 progress 8). Achievements such as these are born out of a culture of hard work and success. Our most recent Ofsted inspection (November 2014) has categorized our school as “outstanding” in all categories. The boys take tremendous pride in their school community and their learning. One student told the Ofsted Inspectors: “we enter as boys but we leave as young men.” St Thomas the Apostle is a school where success is achieved within a nurturing Christian community. This is reflected in our motto “Achieving Excellence with Care”. We insist on the highest standards of behavior, uniform, attitude to learning, and respect for one another and the environment. By providing a traditional, yet broad and balanced curriculum for all our students, we can recognize and develop individual talents and interests. Building on our growing reputation for excellence, we opened our new Sixth Form in September 2015. Our students benefit from the close links with the best universities in the country and a high proportion leave us to attend Russell Group universities. St Thomas the Apostle College strives to provide an outstanding level of education for all its pupils within an environment of strong Catholic traditions. We value all members of our College community and encourage all staff and students to bear witness to the Catholic faith in their work and relationships. The College aims to provide a happy, caring, and successful learning environment for all our students where their true potential can be realized. Our students all receive an academic curriculum that is broad and balanced. The spread and the depth of the curriculum have been carefully thought through and facilitate our students to receive the very best outcomes in their GCSEs, A-Levels, and beyond. The broad and balanced curriculum we have put in place ensures that all boys are prepared for the opportunities, responsibilities, and experiences of adult life. We encourage all boys to develop enquiring minds and equip them with the skills necessary to become autonomous learners. By taking responsibility for their learning our students will leave St Thomas the Apostle College fully equipped to cope with the demands of a complex, fast-changing society. The 6th Form at St Thomas the Apostle College combines high expectations of academic performance, a commitment to personal development, and increased independence and responsibility for our students as they prepare for Higher Education and successful careers. The academic curriculum is supplemented by an extensive enrichment program on Wednesday afternoons, work experience placements in the summer term, and a comprehensive program of events to prepare students for Higher Education, prestigious apprenticeships, and future careers. The 6th Form Centre offers a wide range of A-Level courses, as well as a selection of vocational BTEC courses. Interest from boys and girls who are currently in Year 11 here and at other schools is welcomed prospective students will find our 6th Form to be professional, stimulating, challenging, and rigorous in equal measure and we look forward to working with ambitious students as we build an outstanding 6th form provision to our outstanding school. St Thomas, The Apostle College has been serving the community of Peckham since 1965. Since that time it has been an integral part of the local community. In the 1960s the Catholic community in Southwark was growing, so a new school was badly needed to provide a quality Catholic education to young Catholic men. Our school now reflects the multi-faith community in which we live. We have members of our community from a wide variety of faith positions, and we ensure that each is valued equally, by our Catholic Christian faith. As Catholics, we believe that the first of all Human Rights is the right for the individual to freely choose and practice their religion because it is this choice that relates closest to God. 2. St Andrew the Apostle Greek Orthodox School is an inclusive secondary school drawing on best practices from the independent and state sectors to meet the individual needs of the full range of students. It has been judged "outstanding" in its first Ofsted report. St Andrew the Apostle is an outstanding school where students learn and thrive in a well-ordered and happy environment. Our school is based on the Christian faith and the moral principles of the Church, but we welcome all those families who are looking for personal growth for their children, coupled with genuine academic excellence. Our expertly-delivered, broad and balanced, traditional but contemporary curriculum aims to develop our students intellectually, socially, culturally, spiritually, and morally. With a focus on English, maths, and science, we also offer classical subjects such as Latin and Greek and an exciting choice of extra-curricular activities. St Andrew the Apostle serves students of all faiths and beliefs in the 11-18 age range: and is located in Barnet within the North London Business Park (NLBP) serving families in Barnet, Enfield, Haringey, Islington, and Hertfordshire. Some students who are allocated one of the 50% of places reserved for Greek Orthodox families come from other London Boroughs as well. We are currently planning for our brand new, purpose-built school and sports facilities at NLBP, which is a very exciting prospect for staff and students alike. The school is underpinned by our Christian values and, as the UK’s first state-funded Greek Orthodox secondary school, we are proud to be making our contribution to the high academic standards and values-based education with which Church schools are associated nationally. We welcome students of all faiths and none. Our first four years have been truly exceptional and Ofsted recognized the rapid and sustained progress students have made whatever their starting point. We have also gained sporting success against schools with much larger year groups than St Andrew the Apostle. Drama and music are also particularly strong with our students singled out for praise at the Barnet Music Festival. All teachers in the school are fully UK qualified teachers. There is a strict appointment procedure which includes a lesson observation by trained Ofsted inspectors as well as a formal interview. Only good or outstanding practitioners are appointed. All students are expected to work hard and to do their very best. This ensures that everyone is an active learner and that lessons are a fun and rewarding experience. Progress is monitored half-termly and parents are kept up to date with the information that will enable them to support their child’s learning. Students are also encouraged to develop as independent learners. Homework is essential for exam success. It is compulsory for students and the work set is both appropriate and challenging. Tutors see their students daily and play a central role in everyone’s academic success, through their daily contact with their tutor group and within the cycle of personal target setting and review sessions. The school’s pastoral approach is closely linked to the Christian ethos of the school and our academic monitoring systems. View full school
