  1. Founded in 1993 by Royal Dahir (decree), Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane opened its doors to students in January 1995. Based on the principles of diversity and an international outlook, the University's mission is driven by values of human solidarity and tolerance. Al Akhawayn has modeled its administrative, pedagogical, and academic organization on the American university system, and English is the language of instruction. In its infancy, the University has already developed a national and international reputation for its unique identity and potential. Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane is an independent, public, not-for-profit, coeducational, Moroccan university committed to educating future citizen-leaders of Morocco and the world through a globally oriented, English -language, liberal arts curriculum based on the American system. The University enhances Morocco and engages the world through leading-edge educational and research programs, including continuing. Executive education upholds the highest academic and ethical standards and promotes equity and social responsibility. Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane (AUI) has recognized the importance of strategic planning since its early years. The first Plan spread over the period 2004-2009 and delineated broad and ambitious goals and outlined university values after a thorough SWOT analysis. The University's next strategic Plan covered 2010-2014 and involved all university units in identifying its seven priorities. The current 2015-2020 Strategic Plan maps the course that AUI will follow in 2015-2020. It reflects over two years of hard work and a process that included input from numerous individuals across the organization, including the Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, students, and alumni. The result is a strategic plan that reflects our values as well as our aspirations and one that will direct and guide us over the next five years. While the new 2015-2020 Strategic Plan recognizes the priorities laid out in the previous Plan, it also aims to build on our achievements and move AUI to the next level of distinction within the ranks of preeminent universities in Africa. The current Plan reviews the University's present position, noting strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and the emergence of a challenging and competitive environment. It sets six priorities for 2020: 1. Student Learning, Development, and Success 2. Quality Assurance and Enhancement 3. Internationalization 4. Advancement for Growth and Sustainability 5. Research, Innovation and Discovery, and 6. More Effective Communication. The Plan's six priorities affirm and advance the University's mission, which is grounded in the Liberal Arts tradition patterned after the American system and is designed to produce graduates ready to play leading roles in an increasingly globalized Moroccan and world economy. The Plan emphasizes student success and internationalization, along with the need to continuously improve the University's programs, students, faculty, infrastructure, communication, and governance. The Plan also supports the University's aspirations to position itself as a leading institution on the African continent through increased research and innovation, international accreditation, and excellence. We invite you to read the Plan, which is accessible below. View full university
