  1. Sultan Agung Islamic University, popularly known as UNISSULA, which stands for Universitas Islam Sultan Agung, was established by Yayasan Badan Wakaf Sultan Agung (YBWSA) on Dzulhijjah 16th, 1381 Hijri, which corresponded to May 20th, 1962. The University was named after the national hero of Sultan Agung (literally, "Great Sultan") as the third Sultan who ruled Mataram Sultane from 1613 to 1645. The King, Sultan Agung Adi Prabu Hanyakrakusuma, was born in Kotagede (now becomes part of Jogyakarta) in 1593. During his sultanate, Mataram was a great sultanate, developed rapidly, and eventually became the most prominent kingdom in Java Island and Nusantara. There were several reasons for selecting the name of Sultan Agung as the name of the University. First, Sultan Agung was a great leader who considerably loved his nation and country; he was a symbol of nationalism. Second, he was tremendously persistent against colonialism. Third, he was a religious Sultan with noble character and implemented religious life through acceptable acculturation across his territory. This was not a surprise that his dedication as a patriot and a humanist made him an Indonesian national hero that this was officially reinforced with presidential decree No. 106/TK/1975 on November 3rd, 1975. By adopting the name "Sultan Agung," UNISSULA expects that the spirit of struggle against colonialism and national development can be maintained and kept alive through high-quality education. Today, UNISSULA has 31 Under Graduate programs, 7 Master's Programs, and 3 Doctorate Programs in the fields of Medicine, Dentistry, Engineering, Law, Economics, Islamic Studies, Nursing, Industrial Technology, Language and Communication, Education, and Psychology. All programs are accredited by The National Accreditation Board of Indonesian Universities (BAN-PT). UNISSULA, as a leading Islamic University, has announced a philosophical tagline for its existence in education, namely "Bismillah, membangun generasi khaira ummah "or "In the name of Allah, raising the generation of the best people." The tagline is inspired by the Holy Qur'an Surah Ali Imran verse 110 as saying, "You are the best nation produced (as an example) for mankind, you enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allah." Islamic Academic Culture – better known as BUDAI, which stands for Budaya Akademik Islami, was then declared for the first time on August 18th, 2005 and adopted as educational strategies to implement and achieve the values of a generation of the best people. The strategies include ruhiyah reinforcement covering iman (belief), worship, and morals implemented in civilization reform by implementing five movements: prayer in congregation Islamic outfit staying clean and purified (taharah) positive role models hospitality improvement of life quality The vision of the University as the leading Islamic Universities in raising the khaira ummah generation, developing science and technology based on Islamic values, and building Islamic civilization toward a prosperous society blessed by Allah SWT in the framework of rahmatan Lil Alamin. The mission of the University Organizing Islamic higher education in the framework of da'wah Islamiyah oriented towards quality and universal equality. Reconstructing and developing science and technology based on Islamic values. Educating and developing Islamic human resources at all educational strata through various disciplines in order to build a Khaira ummah generation and cadres for Ulemas (taffaquh finding) by prioritizing the nobility of morals, the highest quality of intellectuality and expertise, and the readiness to perform the duties of leadership and da'wah. Developing community services in building Islamic civilization towards a prosperous society blessed by Allah SWT in the framework of rahmatan lil'alamin. Developing ideas and activities to be dynamically ready to continually make institutional improvement by the reconstruction and development of science and technology and the development of the community.
