Adamson University, a Catholic Vincentian educational institution, is a recognized leading center for quality education, particularly for the socially disadvantaged. Rich or poor, Catholic or not, Filipino or foreigner, the University does not discriminate as a matter of admission policy. It, however, pursues the teaching of Catholic, Vincentian, and human values because these have universal relevance. First-year students and transferees are oriented on the School's Vision-Mission, which becomes more transparent as they internalize the five core values of Search for Excellence, Spirit of St. Vincent de Paul, Solidarity, Social Responsibility, and Sustained Integral Development. The Library helps its clientele, especially the students, in their academic and personal development through updated library resources and services to attain the institutional mission and objectives efficiently. The Adamson School of Industrial Chemistry Library (now Adamson University) was instituted in 1933 when the school was located at the former Philippine Senate Building in General Solano St., San Miguel, Manila. It started with the collections of approximately 500 volumes of library resources. These materials were organized by Mrs. Maxima Magsanoc Ferrer, the first librarian of the University. Mrs. Ferrer was then a part-time librarian and was helped by two student assistants. When the University moved to Real St., Intramuros, Manila, orders for reference books accelerated, and the serial collection increased. Many chemistry and technical books were also acquired. Mrs. Maxima M. Ferrer became the library consultant, and her sister Bernardina Magsanoc (now Mrs. Bonifacio) became the first permanent librarian. The collection grew as much as 75,000 volumes. After World War II in 1942, the library materials were damaged. The University was re-opened in 1946 at the premises owned by the Vincentian Fathers in San Marcelino Street, Manila (now St. Vincent Building). Shipments of bulk volumes of books came from the United States through Dr. Lucas Adamson. The Library was located on the Second Floor of the building, and it was organized again by Mrs. Maxima M. Ferrer. Then in the early part of 1947, Mrs. Ferrer was appointed by President George Lucas Adamson as the Chief Librarian. The library collection grew tremendously to approximately 10,000 volumes of books and other library materials since then. Orders for books and serials were made to augment its collection. In general, the Information Technology Center (ITC) is responsible for computing facilities, developing and monitoring computerized administrative systems, generating information systems reports, and providing maintenance services. The IT Center, as a whole, is a partner in the progress of the University. Its highly effective technical support to administrators in their diversified functions makes the University globally competitive. The Information Technology Center (ITC) of Adamson University was established in 1999 to provide the highest quality service in information technology that is responsive and meets the academic community's technological needs and computerization requirements, non-academic, and the various administrative offices in the University. The IT Center supervises, controls, and manages all the IT infrastructures in the University. These include the computerization of the different administrative offices and the provision of the University data resources such as computers, network facilities, internet, maintenance services, and the design and improvement of University processes with the end-view that such services effectively respond to the requirements of the University, and in harmony with the operational plans of the entire Adamson University. In pursuit of the Adamson University mission and vision, we are committed to participate actively and contribute to ensuring and improving the quality of information technology services to the entire Adamson University community. An Adamsonian education is a twofold package: an enriching of the mind and a molding of a character that embraces the Vincentian spirit of compassion for the socially disadvantaged.
