Wilbraham & Monson Academy is for students who are looking for a transformational education within a nurturing and supportive community. WMA is a global experience with students from 33 countries, a unique travel program, countless afternoon and athletic program offerings, and our distinctive Center for Entrepreneurial & Global Studies. CEGS courses serve as the History and Social Science department while also housing the Mark R. Shenkman Trading Center – the pinnacle facility for economics, finance and entrepreneurship classes.
Wilbraham & Monson Academy is a transformational experience where students become challenge-seeking citizens and leaders of an evolving world. What sets WMA apart from other schools is our combination of community, academics, distinctive programs, and opportunities. We are part of a small, local, nurturing, traditional school and part cutting-edge, forward-thinking preparation for college and the world beyond.
At WMA, we believe in hard work. Our challenging program and rigorous expectations demand concerted effort from all members of our community. We understand that hard work is the key to harnessing life's opportunities and that, through practice, we can learn the habit of hard work not only to achieve our goals but for its value. Every day, students and teachers at WMA bask in the glow of hard work rewarded and time well spent. Second, only to curiosity, this habit of effort is critical to developing as a lifelong learner.
We match our challenging environment with a nurturing support system, and for us, that starts with our students. Students at Wilbraham & Monson Academy care for one another and respect one another for the flavor that their differences bring to our campus. In turn, they are surrounded by a concerned and caring network of faculty and staff who dedicate their lives to inspiring those around them to realize new limits and supporting them when they need it.
What makes a school global? It provides an all-encompassing global experience through academics, travel, community, and exposure to world-class speakers on global topics. WMA invites the world into the classroom through the study and practice of finance, economics, entrepreneurship, social responsibility, community service, and technology.
The primary goal of our WMA Middle School is to promote the intellectual, social, and physical growth of young adolescents. We seek to stimulate and satisfy the innate curiosity of our young learners. Our academic program features an integrated humanities curriculum, an issue-oriented science program, an accelerated mathematics program, and extensive world language courses, with a technology component incorporated into these courses. All Middle School students also take art, music, health, and physical education.
In a diverse, rigorous, and caring environment, the Upper School promotes adolescents' intellectual, social, and physical growth. Students broaden their academic development as they prepare for the challenges of higher education and success as compassionate, challenge-seeking global citizens and leaders in an increasingly interdependent world.
To achieve this, we require a total of 57 credits for graduation, 42 of which are to be earned from our core requirements across six disciplines. The remaining 15 elective credits allow students to strengthen their academic college preparation further, pursue personal passions and interests, as well as meet college-specific requirements. Boarding school is about community, and at Wilbraham & Monson Academy, a healthy residential community is the foundation of campus life. For all school members to live and learn in a caring and supportive environment, we must create a safe, healthy, compassionate, and respectful residential community of students and adults.
