Founded by entrepreneurs in 1982 as the first co-ed, independent school in Columbus, Wellington propels students in preschool through grade 12 to discover and cultivate their unique potential. The biggest reward is knowing that our students are prepared. Not just for the days, we can see ahead, but for the ones we cannot even imagine. We believe that learning should be exciting, purposeful, life-changing — and unique to every child. Our mission is to guide students as they explore all the possibilities set before them so they can discover their true passions in life.
We are an independent, coeducational, preschool-through-grade 12, college-preparatory day school. Our students benefit from small classes as they dive deep into their knowledge of the world and themselves. All of our graduates attend college, with many matriculating to the nation's top universities. Students carry with them the ideals of The Wellington School and an insatiable desire for lifelong learning.
The mission of The Wellington School has remained steadfast since it was first conceived more than 30 years ago. Giving children the courage to pursue their passions is foremost in everything we do. We believe students should have the opportunity to excel in academics and explore the arts, athletics, and service to the community. These activities better prepare our students as they take their place as future leaders in the global community. Curiosity and creativity are fundamental in our approach to educating the whole child. We encourage parents, students, and faculty to think big, and then we provide them with the necessary tools to make their dreams a reality.
Every day and in every interaction, the Wellington family expects integrity, fosters mutual respect, embraces diversity, inspires each person to discover and strives to meet their unique potential, and celebrates excellence in character, academics, the arts, and athletics.
Life as a Jaguar is filled with connections that foster a meaningful sense of community. Crossing languages, cultures, school divisions, and the lunch table, our students connect as mentors, buddies, teammates, and partners. At Wellington, how we learn is just as important as what we learn.
The Wellington School prepares students for success in life by nurturing their inquisitive nature to discover their passions. We provide the foundation of excellent education and give them the tools to face – with confidence and responsibility – the challenges of being lifelong, inquisitive learners, teachers of others, and leaders in an increasingly complex world.
Our students further enhance their growth by participating at all ages in sports, theater, music, and competitions. We believe practical life skills can be learned either in center field or on center stage. The Wellington School also facilitates community service projects that help students stay grounded and realistic in their worldviews.
We believe learning should be joyful, and we are committed to helping each child find delight in every discovery he or she makes while becoming a capable learner. Our innovative curriculum is not dictated by standardized testing. It is integrated across subjects and customized to fulfill the needs and interests of our students.
The Wellington School offers college counseling, rather than placement, to ensure success at the post-secondary level. This difference cannot be overstated. Our program is distinctive in its empowerment of students to search for, identify, and enroll in colleges that are strong fits based on their passions and circumstances.
The Wellington family comprises students, parents, faculty, and administrators who support each other and embrace their differences. We acknowledge the myriad of ways that individuals define themselves as society continues to grow and evolve.
Wellington's founders were devoted to creating a diverse learning environment for students, and we actively seek a student body that mirrors our school's mission. Diversity at Wellington is defined by differences in race, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status.
The Wellington School affirms its commitment to diversity and multiculturalism in our school community. Diversity at Wellington is defined by differences in race, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, physical ability, and learning styles. Wellington will continue to acknowledge the ways that individuals define themselves as society grows and changes. Multiculturalism is defined as understanding and appreciating the value of differences and embracing and celebrating our population's diversity. As we prepare our students to be capable citizens in our increasingly inter-dependent and global world, we recognize how essential it is that they learn to appreciate the qualities and experiences of others who are different.
Wellington's founders were devoted to creating a diverse learning environment for its students. In keeping with the school's mission and the founders' intent, we recommend enhancing educational practices and all aspects of the institutional culture to reinforce the values of diversity and multiculturalism. We support an environment that enriches the school community's learning experiences and prepares students to function responsibly in a complex, pluralistic, multicultural society.
