We are a Pre-K3 through Grade 12 school that produces young people of high character, whose curiosity, knowledge, and sound blend together to form a foundation for future leadership. Our dedicated faculty instills in each one of our charges a self-confidence that allows them to dare to stretch limits and dream. As advocated by the Harvard School of Education, we want our students to arrive at unexpected answers, ask unfamiliar questions, and seek fresh thinking ways. We believe that in order for students to maximize the highest qualities of their minds, they must have the time to play with ideas.
We have adopted the Design Thinking Model of Education, where students are taught to proto-type and reevaluate learning processes, hoping that temporary failure in attempting to solve unfamiliar problems can always lead to opportunities to learn and improve. Our students persevere! Moreover, as we keep moving into this century, we want to prepare our students to integrate the technological world with the organic world by embracing the maker space movement, coding and robotics, and, in no time at all, virtual reality. You will also see that we have a real commitment to globalization at the Academy. Our entire Grade 9 class travels to London, England for a week of study and culture, at no additional cost, as this is part of the Grade 9 curriculum. Our Grade 10 students experience the same kind of trip in New York City, where we get to explore and plumb the cultural riches of our surrounding environs.
Our students are admitted to the finest colleges and universities in the country and receive many accolades, both internally and externally. We are very proud of them! But, if you were to ask them what they treasure most, they inevitably will tell you: kindness. We pride ourselves in being a place where kindness, tolerance, and collaboration trump personal accolades. We take great pride in each other's successes. We are a school where we encourage students to "do it all!" It is common for an Academy student to earn honor grades, captain an athletic team, and be a lead actor in our theater program. Furthermore, once enrolled, students become members of one of five Houses at the Academy that compete throughout the year for the singular honor of winning the House Cup competition . . . Harry Potter has nothing on us!
The moment families visit our twelve-acre campus; they instantly feel the goodness and joy that permeates through to the whole community. Each of our students is empowered by the development of their fair imaginations and intellects to love every step of their learning process. Our ultimate aim is to create lifelong learners who will be able to know clearly, serve humbly, and lead firmly.
The Academy's academic curriculum is challenging at all grade levels, and we are committed to providing one of the top academic programs in New York City. Under our Division Directors' direction, the curriculum is designed to be fully unified from Pre-K3 through Grade 12. What students learn in one grade will be used as a foundation for further growth in the next. The curriculum is also purposefully designed so that new students can use their primary education as a springboard for learning at the Academy.
We know that children learn best when their intellectual, creative, emotional, social, and physical growth is nurtured and challenged. Toward that end, the Academy encourages active student participation in extracurricular activities, including community service, student government, academic competitions, student clubs, student exchange programs, interscholastic sports, numerous art programs and productions, and other after-school offerings. These are not just part of student life at the Academy. They are the core of how we educate.
At the Academy, our teachers know every single student. Our teachers are leaders in their fields. Above all, our teachers are some of the most incredible educators you will find. Their credentials are tops, and the care and compassion they teach to ensure that a student's education is not something taken lightly by anyone. In addition to their outstanding work in the classroom, Academy faculty members are coaches, academic and activity advisers, college advisers, role models, and mentors.
The Academy encourages parents to become active participants in the school's life and their child's education. We believe that with a strong parent presence at school events, sports games, theatrical productions, fundraisers, and the like, we teach students that they have the support necessary to succeed. At the same time, it is our goal that all students learn to become independent young adults, and we are intentional about providing parents with the resources and support to let their kids grow up and become self-reliant.
