Founded in 1914 by an anonymous benefactor and supported by the generosity of her family, its alumni, and friends, Regis High School offers a tuition-free Jesuit college preparatory education to Roman Catholic young men from the New York metropolitan area who demonstrate superior intellectual and leadership potential. In the admissions process, special consideration is given to those who cannot afford a Catholic education.

Since 1914 Regis has been serving Catholic young men from the New York metropolitan area and providing a tuition-free Jesuit education. Our Foundress and her family supported the school as their charity for the first half-century of our existence. Since then, we have been able to continue to provide full scholarships to all our students through our alumni, parents, and friends' remarkable generosity.
The admissions standards are rigorous. We look for candidates who demonstrate superior intellectual and leadership potential. In the admissions process, we give preference to those who would not otherwise afford a Catholic education.
Our students come from all five boroughs of New York and Long Island, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Westchester. In the 2016-2017 school year, our 530 students haled from 247 zip codes, and the average commute to Regis from home was 65 minutes each way. The school's diversity is reflected not only in the geographic distribution but also in the racial and socio-economic backgrounds of our students. While the academic load is demanding, students make life-long friends and develop deep bonds with the school for the rest of their lives. Regis changes our students' e Regis academic program is a liberal arts curriculum for the 21st Century in the Jesuit tradition of educating the whole person. It is a curriculum vertically aligned to ensure that every student completes, at a considerable level of proficiency, a coherent and demanding sequence of college preparatory academic courses and rooted in Ignatian and Gospel values. Curriculum and instruction prepare students to be critical thinkers, providing them with knowledge, understanding, and skills to become socially responsible global citizens and imaginative Catholic leaders in their future chosen professions.
The academic curriculum is distinctive because all courses are intensive and accelerated, mostly standard for all students in their first three years; students are allowed an unusual measure of responsibility and self-direction as they advance through independent study, unscheduled time, and individualized instruction. However, incoming first-year students choose their language courses, and there is accelerated math placement for qualifying students. Students who want to take the College Board's AdBoard placement exams are encouraged to do so after taking the required school courses in the rigorous Regis curriculum. Seniors are required to take English and Theology courses, which are chosen from a variety of electives. Their remaining electives are chosen from any discipline or interdisciplinary field.
