At GDS, we develop confident leaders. We embrace authenticity, and we respect diversity. Our students are taught how to think--not what to think. We prepare them not only for college but for life in a global society. We use the latest technology, a comprehensive curriculum, and a 65-acre campus for discovery. You will find teachers who build partnerships with our students and are fully invested in their development. Greensboro Day School develops the intellectual, ethical, and interpersonal foundations students need to become constructive contributors to the world.
Since our opening in 1970, the school has intended to be a welcoming place to our entire community. Our student body represents many of the different ethnic groups within the Triad and cultures worldwide. Along with our faculty, they provide an engaging and safe environment for students to learn, explore, and grow.
It is hard to pick out even one or two highlights of the student experience at Greensboro Day School. Greensboro Day School has it all, from our award-winning fine and performing arts and music programs to our championship athletic teams and academic programs that prepare students to enter the most prestigious colleges and universities. No matter what interest a student may have, there is more than likely a club or activity that they will feel comfortable joining. Our students are known for their public speaking abilities, problem-solving, debate, community service, and leadership.
What unites us is a deep commitment to our core values of Wisdom, Community, and Respect - Wisdom, through our academic programs, Community through our commitment to service, and Respect through our deeply held adherence to an honor code. Greensboro Day School is a place where students can feel respected, held to a high academic standard, and bound to an honor code that supports them in ethical decision making.
Student Support Services provides families and students with comprehensive and coordinated support services at all developmental levels. Greensboro Day School has an exceptional team of professionals who are committed to serving your children. The Support Services team is present daily to help teachers, students, and parents help children reach their academic and social/emotional potential. Members of the Student Support Services staff welcome the opportunity to meet families individually to collaborate on meeting the needs of children best.
For children of all ages, digital media (smartphones, tablets, computers, handheld games, etc.) is an integral part of their lives. Often children spend many hours a day with these technologies. On the surface, it appears that these students are technology experts because of their facility with digital media. However, ease of use does not equate with digital literacy. At Greensboro Day School, we provide our students with developmentally appropriate opportunities to apply their technical abilities in an educational context. In our program, these students become successful digital consumers, creators, and communicators as they become constructive contributors to our world. Also, we assure that our students understand how to participate responsibly in our digital global society.
At Greensboro Day School, students develop not only intellectually but also interpersonally. Through academics, service-learning, athletics, arts, and other extracurricular opportunities, students gain self-confidence, practice leadership, and ethical decision making.
Whether through serving as a reading buddy in Lower School, participating in Learning2Lead as a Middle School student, or presenting to the entire Upper School during Assembly, Greensboro Day School students take advantage of new opportunities and experiences each day.
