This school is part of the Council’s Healthy School Scheme and has received the highest award, namely the National Quality Award. The Gwynedd Healthy School Scheme is managed in partnership with the National Public Health Service of Wales, Gwynedd Council, and the Local Health Board. The scheme enables schools to make a positive contribution towards the health and well-being of their pupils, teachers, and the wider community by developing an environment that promotes health.
The school is part of the County’s Green Schools scheme that promotes care of the local and worldwide environment. The scheme aims to teach this to children as a sustainable ‘way of life for the future. The school has also been awarded the highest accolade in this field. We have received the ‘Eco Schools’ accreditation.
We take pride in our close relationship with the community. We work closely with the Town Council and Local Councillor to ensure that the children have input into the development of their area.
We aim to: Enable each individual to gain information, attitudes, and skills that are relevant to life in a rapidly-changing world, to have access to continuous learning, and to make creative use of leisure. Encourage a link between this school and other schools, industry, and commerce to develop the child’s understanding of the economic life of the area.
Encourage the school to promote links with the local community and society in general by taking part in voluntary and community activities. Include an element of leisure activities in the educational experience of each child so that they can use their leisure hours creatively and for a purpose.
The behavior of the children at Nefyn is excellent. As a consequence, they are rewarded with golden time on Friday afternoons. The children will get to choose from several nice activities such as playing games, drawing pictures, etc. On the rare occasions when children choose not to stick to the golden rules, they will lose 5 minutes of golden time. However, the child can regain these 5 minutes by displaying effort and behaving as he/she should. If a child’s behavior doesn’t improve we may use alternative strategies such as loss of playtime. In some severe circumstances, we might contact parents to discuss a matter.
