All children, staff, and families of our school community are members of Team Wood End and we are all committed to following our school's vision and aims. Every child at Wood End Infant School is encouraged and supported to be the best that they can be in the safest possible environment. In partnership with our parents and carers, we teach our children to be happy, responsible, and confident citizens of the future. We provide every child with the opportunity to develop their full potential, independence, curiosity, and a love of learning. Wood End Infant School is a happy and vibrant place. We offer a safe and stimulating environment for the children to learn in. We were judged to be a Good school following an Ofsted Inspection in 2012. Ofsted found that ‘All groups of pupils make good progress, resulting in standards that are above national average’.
We are a four-form entry school set in lovely grounds with first-class facilities which include an ICT Suite, an Art, Design, and Technology room, a library, a large music room, and rooms to facilitate small group learning. The school is a large single-story building. The Key Stage 1 playground has a variety of play equipment installed, including an adventure playground and an area where the children can play on bikes and scooters at lunchtime. The children are also able to play on the large playing field. There is a separate playground for Reception classes, with a plethora of activities for the children to engage in. There are 2 large canopies in the playground so that outdoor learning and play can take place throughout the year.
Our Nursery accommodates 100 children across 2 sessions (morning or afternoon) and is situated within the main building of the school. There is a separate entrance to the Nursery, but the children utilize all of the facilities that we have within the school. In addition, there is large outdoor learning and play area which is covered by canopies, allowing the outside space to be used all year round.
We provide a curriculum that is broad and balanced, offering a range of experiences that are relevant to the children’s present and future interests and needs. Education is a life-long process and we aim to help the children to achieve their full potential and to acquire the concepts, knowledge, skills, and attitudes that will equip them for life in a fast-changing world. The curriculum is designed to achieve high standards through a relevant, challenging, and imaginative program that includes as much first-hand experience as possible. It is concerned with the development of children intellectually, emotionally, socially, physically, aesthetically, and morally and enabling them to become as numerate and literate as possible, to reach their full potential, and to experience full and useful lives both now and in the future.
The children will be provided with active, enjoyable, and stimulating learning experiences in a secure, happy and caring environment where each individual is valued and respected. We aim to provide each child with opportunities to experience success and achievement and to develop a positive self-image. The Foundation Stage program is based on the Early Learning Goals and planned and delivered through the following areas – Personal, Social & Emotional Communication, Language & Literacy Mathematics Knowledge & Understanding of the World Physical Creative.
