Our teaching is stimulating and creative and encourages our children to continue their education outside of school and become lifelong learners. We want to ignite an interest in the world around them, and for that interest to lead fulfilling and imaginative lives. Learning should be fun!
Whilst academic achievements are an important part of life at our school, all our children also have the opportunity to enjoy a wide variety of sporting and musical opportunities, as well as regular trips and residential visits. Our pastoral care is exceptional, ensuring all children are kept safe and are supported both inside and outside school.
Another very important part of our school is you, the parent! We champion the link between school, and parents and work very hard to involve you in every step of your child's time here...and increase your child's enjoyment of learning. Strong family support such as this is fundamental to giving children a stepping stone to the future.

The curriculum is organized in line with the Key Stages of the National Curriculum in which children from seven to eleven years of age follow the Programmes of Study for Key Stage 2. Children who have a good primary education are more likely to succeed in their secondary education. We understand a good primary education to be one that gives our children a thorough grounding in the basics within a broad, balanced, and motivating curriculum. Each subject in the curriculum is planned separately, but we have organized our program creatively so that the topics studied link in and complement each other wherever possible. Additionally, throughout the year we plan special focus weeks which give children an opportunity to study a subject in greater depth.
Maths is a key area of the curriculum. The approach at Wood End is to encourage pupils to attain a solid understanding of the basics of mathematics so they may have the confidence to work independently. We want the children to be able to apply their knowledge in everyday situations and to realize that Maths is not only useful but fun too!
Wood End is well resourced and practical equipment is available in every class. There is also a wide variety of software packages in regular use. The children are tested regularly to check they have learned the work and there are more formal tests at the end of each year to measure progress. You can help your child by making sure that they learn their multiplication tables. The children are grouped according to ability in YR5 and YR6.
We recognize the central importance of English in the curriculum. We firmly believe that it is the right of every child to be literate and articulate and that it is our responsibility, along with parents, to ensure all our children leave Wood End Academy with the language skills they will need to make the most of their time at High School and in the wider world.
English is taught both as a separate subject and in the context of all other areas of the curriculum. Throughout the school, the emphasis is on making sure that the children can read at an appropriate level, that they are aware of spelling patterns, and are developing their creative writing and verbal expression.
