The Cathedral School has a very special ethos that underpins all that we do. Our school aims to nurture the talent and personality of each pupil, enabling all to thrive within a mutually respectful and supportive environment.
What do we count as success? That young women and men leave here having begun to discover their individuality, with intellectual curiosity as well as excellent examination results, appreciation of beauty and truth as well as knowledge, kindness as well as competitiveness, and with a breadth of interests and experiences which will enable them to make their way confidently in the adult world.
Recognizing that all young people have a unique set of skills and enabling all pupils to fulfill their potential. Opportunities abound for all pupils and students to achieve at the Cathedral School. Whether it is studying in the classroom, competing on the sports field, playing a musical instrument, performing in the inspiring drama productions, singing in Llandaff Cathedral, or taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme.
At all stages, academic achievement is supported by a strong Learning Support team, and parents are kept informed of progress through six weekly reports. Prep is set at all levels and carefully monitored, so pupils and students develop good habits of self-directed study. Examination results, at both Junior and Senior levels, are consistently impressed by both regional and national standards. The school is regularly one of the top achieving schools in Wales for examinations and it appears high on UK-wide rankings. However, sometimes the least noticed achievements may be the most significant. What matters in the classroom is everyone working hard in ways they can be proud of.
At the Cathedral School, we have a clear vision of what education should be about and seek to live by that vision in our day-to-day interactions with one another and in setting the long-term direction of the school. As a Woodard school, we have a vision of a first-class academic education, an extensive co-curricular program that develops the skills and interests of our pupils outside the classroom, and a commitment to high-quality pastoral care within a Christian context.
The school's ethos can be articulated in five themes: achievement, care, opportunity, ambition, and leadership. The School Governors and the Senior Leadership Team seek to ensure high-quality leadership and management at all levels of the school. We are fortunate to have a very able and committed staff, excellent facilities, and a very supportive parental body. All of us have one aim: that each pupil should be cared for, and should thrive both within and beyond the classroom.
