St Mary’s RC Primary School is a Roman Catholic Primary School under the trusteeship of the Diocese of Salford. It is maintained by Manchester Authority. As a Voluntary Aided School, the Governing Body is the Admissions Authority and is responsible for taking decisions on applications for admissions.
Parents/Carers must accept all policies drawn up by the Governors of St Mary’s RC Primary School eg: uniform, behavior, homework, etc and are expected to sign to this effect before their child is admitted to the school. ADMISSIONS TO THE SCHOOL will be made by the Governing Body. All preferences listed on the Local Authority Preference Form will be considered on an equal basis with the following set of ADMISSIONS CRITERIA forming a priority order where there are more applications for admissions than the school has places available.
At St Mary's, we ensure our children receive high-quality teacher and learning on a day-to-day basis, not only in our classrooms but also in the varied outdoor learning areas we have on our grounds. Our school places high value on the learning environment, both in and outdoors, that our children are exposed to every day. Through this approach, we believe we secure the best possible learning environment for children to grow and flourish as learners and people. Whilst the Headteacher of the school is responsible for the day-to-day management of the school, the role of the Governing Body is to provide strategic management and to act as a ‘critical friend’, supporting and challenging the school. Schools generally have a budget to cover salaries, running costs, maintenance, and equipment and the Governing Body is responsible for managing this budget. They can decide how many and what types of staff to employ, which equipment to upgrade or replace, and what the priorities are for implementing new strategies and initiatives.
Governors also have a role in monitoring the school's progress and in setting annual targets for the school's performance and the Headteacher. Although all of the governors have the responsibility to promote and maintain the school’s Catholic character and mission, the foundation governors have a special responsibility in this area. We are very fortunate at St Mary’s to have a spacious site and beautiful grounds. Over the past year or so we have been working hard to improve the buildings and facilities for the benefit of the children and we expect this program of refurbishment to continue for the next 12-18 months. To better serve the needs of local children, our school is moving to 2-form entry over the next few years, which is why so much building work is currently taking place. We will keep you updated on the latest plans for the school buildings themselves as they develop.
