At St Mary’s we are dedicated to educating our young people in an inclusive, stimulating, and challenging environment preparing them for life-long learning. We will provide this in a secure, happy, and welcoming environment where Christian and Catholic values are cherished and where staff, pupils, and parents work in partnership to achieve common goals.

At St Mary’s we are committed to providing an education for our young people, which is inclusive, stimulating, and inspiring. Our aspiration for our pupils is that they should become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens, and effective contributors. We will provide this in a secure, happy, and welcoming environment where Christian and Catholic values are cherished and where pupils, staff, and parents work in partnership to achieve these goals.

    Our School Aims:

    • To ensure that all learners experience a stimulating and challenging Scottish Curriculum that delivers skills for learning, life, and work.
    • To provide a variety of active learning experiences in real-life contexts where high achievement is recognized and celebrated.
    • To provide effective, integrated support which ensures the health, well-being, and holistic development of all pupils.
    • To nurture the faith in our catholic pupils and to celebrate the cultural, ethnic, and religious diversity of all. Our Christian faith and values will inspire us to provide a welcoming, safe and caring environment.

We recognize the importance of keeping pupils and parents informed of progress and achievement. Parents are invited into school at the beginning of the session to find out about and contribute to their child’s learning journey folders or scrapbooks for our upper classes. These are regularly updated each term and sent home where parents can discuss and comment on their child’s learning and progress. Parents also receive an interim and summative report as well as an opportunity to discuss their child’s learning at Parent Consultation meetings.

Pupils’ achievements are part of their, ‘Sharing Our Learning’ jotters, and children are encouraged to add evidence of achievements both within and out of school. Achievements are also recognized at whole school assemblies, House meetings, on school and class displays, and on our school website. Opportunities for achievement are part of teachers’ plans and achievements form part of learning discussions that teachers have with pupils to help them recognize their achievements for themselves.

In St Mary’s our children are generally all well behaved and we have a high standard of good behavior throughout the school. We have a Positive Behaviour Policy and expect children to have high expectations of themselves. We work in all classes to promote the wellbeing of everyone in school and have consideration for school property and the property of others. We have a House System, which promotes everyone working towards a goal. Children can gain House points for good work, being helpful or kind to others, etc.
