St Mary’s and St. Peter’s is a voluntary aided primary school founded by the Church of England to provide education for the children of Teddington. The school is sponsored by the two Parish Churches of Teddington, St. Mary with St Alban and St Peter and St Paul with St Michael and St George. Children will start full-time in September following their fourth birthday.

At St. Mary’s and St Peter’s Church of England Primary School, we aim to provide a vision that is deeply Christian, whilst at the same time serving the common good within our community. We take the words of Jesus in John 10.10 promising ‘life in all its fullness’ seriously and believe that all within our community should be able to flourish and achieve their full potential.
St Mary’s and St Peter’s Pre-school is located within the grounds of St Mary’s & St Peter’s Primary School. It provides for the educational and developmental needs of pre-school children (aged 3 and 4) and maintains very close links with the main school. It is, however, currently run independently as a registered charity by a management committee of school governors, teaching staff, and parents.
St Mary’s and St Peter’s Primary School fully recognize its responsibilities for safeguarding and child protection. The Designated Safeguarding Lead is the Deputy Headteacher, Mrs. Justine Bateman, and the Assistant Headteacher, Miss Marie Richardson and the Nominated Governor for child protection is Rev’d Mary Hawes and Mrs. Anna Harrison. The role of the Nominated Governor is to meet regularly with the DSL to monitor that appropriate policies and procedures are in place and that they are being implemented correctly.
Places will be considered for those children whose parents/carers have expressed a preference for St Mary's and St Peter's CE Primary School by submission of the common application form (CAF) to the Local Authority naming the school. If you are applying for a Foundation Place, the supplementary information form should also be completed and this should be returned to the school (not the local authority) by the published deadline so that the governors may give full consideration to your application.
The school maintains a waiting list for children who are not initially offered a place. Parents need to inform the school if they would like their child to be kept on our waiting list. This does not happen automatically. The lists are kept indefinitely and parents are asked to inform the school if they would like their child’s name removed. Parents have the right to appeal against a decision not to offer their child a place at this school. The school operates according to the Local Authority’s appeals procedures.
The school will provide the children with fruit for morning playtime in the Foundation Stage and KS1. There will be a different type of fruit each day. Children are always supervised at playtimes and any problems are dealt with quickly by the teacher on duty. Bumps or grazes are promptly dealt with by members of staff who are first aid trained. You will be informed in these situations.
The reception classes have their own outdoor space. During the first few weeks, the children will have their playtimes in this area. As their confidence increases the children will gradually integrate with Year 1 and Year 2 into the main infant playground. The reception playground is specifically set each day as an outdoor classroom so we respectfully ask that you do not allow your children to play with the activities set up in this area before or after school.
The Governors of the school are responsible for the strategic direction of the school and are very involved in the whole of school life. They meet as a whole group twice a term and in addition to this, they meet for regular sub-committees and serve a four-year term of office. The Chair of Governors can be contacted via the school.
All Early Years providers complete an EYFS profile for each child in the final term of the year in which the child reaches the age of five. For most children, this is the Reception Year. The primary purpose of the EYFS profile is to provide a reliable, valid, and accurate assessment of individual children at the end of the EYFS. The profile describes each child’s attainment against the 17 early learning goals together with a short narrative about their learning characteristics. This information is reported to parents in the child’s end-of-year report.
St Mary’s and St Peter’s Church of England Primary School (SMSP) is a mainstream school for children aged 3 to 11 years. The School’s vision statement ‘life in all its fullness’ encapsulates our belief that all within our community should be able to flourish and achieve their full potential. We are well supported by Achieving for Children to ensure that all our pupils, regardless of their specific needs, make the best possible progress in school. We strive towards being as inclusive as possible in following the SEN Code of Practice (2014) and towards being able to meet the needs of all of our pupils with SEND.
