St Anne’s is a Catholic School that seeks to live out the values of Jesus Christ. We promote these values by our words and actions and our practice, therefore, permeates every aspect of the school’s activity. Our Mission Statement is inclusive and constantly encourages mutual respect for others and the uniqueness of each person.
We provide a curriculum, which is broad and balanced, recognizing that every pupil is unique and is created in the image of God. Our curriculum is designed to enable every pupil to be well-equipped to follow it as active citizens in service to the world. Children experience democracy through the school council. They learn about the rule of law by creating class rules and following a clear behavior policy that is explained to all.
Children are encouraged to be independent in their learning and are provided with opportunities for reflection to promote individual liberty. In Religious Education pupils are provided with a deeper understanding of their faith as well as an awareness of the faith and traditions of other religious communities.
Our Mission at St Anne’s Roman Catholic Primary School is to ensure a safe and caring learning environment in which Every Child is given Every Chance to achieve their full potential. We recognize that every individual is unique and formed in God’s image and likeness and it is this that guides our daily work.
We have a school nursery class which starts each September where we admit pupils who are 3 years of age by 31st August of that year. Therefore, pupils are admitted in the September following their 3rd Birthday. Applications for all other year groups have to be made via Manchester City Council.
The curriculum at St Anne’s RC Primary School is brought to life through the creative learning philosophy of Engage-Develop-Innovate-Express. Each Year Group selects from a range of imaginative learning projects which provide comprehensive coverage of the new National Curriculum Programmes of Study and sets out steps in learning to help children meet or exceed the end of Key Stage expectations.
The imaginative learning projects can last between 4-6 weeks. Each project begins with the ‘Engage’ phase where children start with a memorable experience. For example, the Year 1 ‘Superheroes’ topic begins with inviting the children to pull on their capes and masks and set off on a ‘Superhero Hunt’. They use their super senses to search for superheroes hiding on the school grounds.
There are occasions when we have to teach some aspects of the curriculum discretely. Religious Education, Maths, Physical Education, and elements of Literacy and ICT are taught outside of the imaginative learning projects to further develop children’s skills, knowledge, and understanding in these areas.
As a Roman Catholic Primary School, we follow the ‘Come and See’ program for Foundation Stage and Key Stages 1 and 2. It is based on the theological foundations of the Second Vatican Council, the Catholic Catechism, and the RE Curriculum Directory. Each term a year group will study 3 topics and the children are guided through each topic by following the processes of Explore, Reveal and Respond. Other Faiths are also an important part of our learning and each class will cover a different faith once each term.
Homework is an important part of our curriculum. Each week a child will have reading, spelling, and number tasks to complete at home. Depending on the imaginative learning project that is being covered, there may also be a piece of research homework to complete. At the heart of our curriculum is the aim that all pupils should feel cared for, healthy, and safe. The curriculum reflects our aim to excite and motivate our children to maximize their learning potential.
It is really important that all parents/carers of children eligible to do so register for free school meals even if you do not choose to have them as the grant enables us to provide extra resources for Pupil Premium children. National Research has shown that children who have been or are on free school meals do not attain as highly as other children in school. The government provides this grant so that we can allocate additional support to ensure that they do. The support can be in a short burst or over a longer time such as a term or two terms. It may take the form of 1:1 or small group teaching and may be an evidence-based intervention.
The government allows us to spend this money in a variety of ways making sure that it impacts children in terms of improving their literacy and mathematical skills and their social and emotional well-being and happiness. Schools are held accountable for the spending of the PPG(Pupil Premium Grant). Published performance tables will report the achievement of disadvantaged pupils covered by the Pupil Premium.
