Sir John Cass is a Church of England and multi-faith school extending from Year 7-11, with the Sir John Cass 6th Form College focused on Year 12 and 13 learning. At Sir John Cass Red Coat, we operate with high standards of behavior, discipline, and attainment. Pupils with Special Educational Needs who join us later in their school career have the opportunity to visit us before they start so that we can plan support in liaison with their current school. As our pupils grow up they may choose to study at our sixth form or another sixth form college. One of our SEND teachers works closely with each student and their teachers to ensure that they choose appropriate courses and colleges and to share information with any people who would be working with the child. For pupils with an EHCP, Annual Reviews take place in December and this will include a formal consultation by the Local Authority with a named placement. We also assist in arranging interviews and visits to sixth form colleges with pupils in consultation with the Tower Hamlets Careers Service. Parents are involved in this at an early stage and discussions are held in reviews in years 10 and 11.
Pupil's voice is taken very seriously at SJCR. We have a school council that meets regularly with the Senior Leadership Team to discuss issues of interest or concern to pupils. The council is elected by each tutor group. We encourage pupils with SEND to take part in this. Pupils with SEND need to be listened to regarding their learning. Opportunities to do this are used during reviews of support plans and in another meeting with parents and teachers.
We aim to provide a stimulating, intellectual and supportive environment for our students to achieve their very best. This means academic success as well as training, skills, and personal development. Studying in an environment where you are known as individuals and are supported is very important for success in post-16 education.
Our highly motivated and dedicated teaching staff encourages independent investigation, discussion and debate, backed up by excellent resources and a wide-ranging curriculum. Our purpose-built Sixth Form College block is equipped with its common rooms, library, and IT suites, specifically for Sixth Form students.
