We are a large (3 form entry), a spacious school with an outstanding team of dedicated professionals who passionately ensure that all of our 600+ pupils succeed. Committed, hardworking and caring, all staff - including our talented Governors - have high expectations of our pupils and each other: we want to prepare children for the next stage of their education and empower them to contribute in their communities, outside of school.
Our school motto is to ‘Inspire and Achieve’ and we live and believe this through our motivational ‘You Can Do It’ PSHE program which promotes our school values. This complements our outstanding curriculum: one which is relevant and real to our pupils and teaches them independence and thinking skills, alongside the knowledge. Pupils at Selborne are at ease with staff and their peers who come from a multiplicity of cultures and backgrounds. We respect others’ views and seek to understand others’ beliefs. Our reinforcement of common, shared British Values fosters this further. A warm welcome awaits you at Selborne. Come and see how outstanding we are and what we can offer your child.
Selborne Primary School’s Keys to Success:
- Respect: At Selborne, all individuals are respected regardless of race, faith, physical ability, gender, language, age, culture, or sexual orientation.
- Persistence: We learn through our mistakes, maintain a positive attitude regardless of any differences, and support others to do so.
- Organization: We prepare ourselves and help others to be ready for every stage of our physical and emotional development. We organize ourselves so that we are prepared for every learning and social opportunity.
- Confidence: All individuals should have a positive image of themselves: physically, emotionally, and academically. As a school community, we are always positive about each other and help those who struggle with issues of self-esteem. We have confidence in who we are and where we belong.
- Getting along: We learn to empathize with and support others. We try to get along with everyone in our community.
- Resilience: We always try to learn from our mistakes and move forward to new challenges with a positive attitude.
We want everyone at Selborne School to the absolute best for all our children, where:
- Learning is fun
- Everyone is encouraged to reach their potential
- We respect and treat each other fairly
- We feel valued as part of the community
Selborne Primary has recently expanded from two forms to three forms of entry. We are located in the center of the Medway estate in Perivale with easy access to Perivale tube and numerous bus routes.
We are most fortunate to have a large site that includes extensive grounds where we promote participation in a variety of sports and outdoor learning. There is a centrally located quad garden and wildlife pond that provides a quiet area in the heart of our building. A recent development has given us several raised beds that make up our allotment. Children grow their vegetables and fruit and then use the produce in cooking with the surplus being sold to the kitchen or parents.
We aim to maximize children’s achievement by removing barriers to learning through a varied inclusive curriculum delivered in a safe, stimulating environment. As a primary school, we believe we have a key role in society in combating discrimination and promoting fairness, justice, and equality through our teaching and in the role models we offer.
We believe in our motto “Inspire and Achieve” and encourage all pupils, staff, parents/carers, and the community to become actively involved in providing the best learning experiences for our children.
Like other state schools in England, we follow the national curriculum which was made mandatory from September 2014. As well as specific content, we ensure our curriculum is tailored to our community as well as providing opportunities for our children to thrive in their learning.
