Parkwood is a highly inclusive school. It is our mission to ensure that we challenge every child to find what they are good at, so no matter what their starting point, they make great progress and achieve the very best they can. Children and their families are very much a part of our school and our site is open from early morning until late evening to accommodate working families and those who just like to be here, as a result, we are a popular local school.
We love to share creativity, academic success, and sporting talent with the whole community. We are open to partnerships and have excellent working relationships with many different bodies to create the best possible environment for our children to learn and thrive.
We follow the Hackney Learning Trust guidance on admissions. Hackney Learning Trust manages all school admissions, the school does not make direct admission decisions. We welcome families wishing to make an application for Parkwood and are happy for them to make an appointment to meet the Headteacher and get to know the school. Please contact the school office for information, tours take place on Monday mornings by appointment only.
Parkwood has created a set of values that the children and adults work to demonstrate in all they do. these go hand in hand with the British Values of democracy the rule of law individual liberty mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith. These values and the accompanying stories demonstrate how we can work together to be the best that we can whether this is in work or play.
Those children who demonstrate Parkwood Values are rewarded through our celebration assemblies, this is also an opportunity to reward progress children make in any aspect of school. Parents are invited to these assemblies and our children look forward to sharing their success with friends and family. As part of the school's vision and ethos, we pride ourselves on the behavior of our children. This stems not only from the high expectations and community-focused ethos but also from our school rules, created by the children.
Learning is a skill that's essential for life, enabling us all to continue to develop and thrive throughout our lives. We are proud of our exciting thematic curriculum, which is constantly growing and evolving to follow the interests of the children, whilst also delivering the knowledge and skills we know that they need. We aim for every child to make progress in every learning experience at Parkwood. Learning focuses not only on developing skills and knowledge to support children in life we also help to develop skills and attitudes needed for learning itself.
At Parkwood, we work very hard to ensure that pupils develop a true love of reading. All of our classrooms have lovely reading corners, full of engaging texts aimed at children of every reading ability in the classroom. We follow the Hackney Loves Reading approach to the teaching of essential reading skills, such as being able to summarise what we have read and connected our reading to our own experiences. Children in early years and key stage one read with an adult at least once per week and older children are involved in group reading tasks with an adult just as frequently. We also send home reading books every week for children to read with parents and carers. Parkwood also encourages parents and carers to read more complex texts to their children at home and offer 'school story' every Friday, where children can choose to hear teachers reading a wide range of tales to them in small groups.
The Governing Body is drawn from the staff of the school, the local authority, parents, and the local community. Parent governors play a vital role in the Governing Body and their contribution is greatly valued. If you are interested in becoming a parent governor, please contact Amanda Townsend, Chair of Governors, via the school office. Contacting the governors: Governors welcome the views of parents and are always happy to discuss any concerns or ideas you may have to improve the school. Parent governors are often available in the playground before or after school, or you can leave a message for them in the office.

At Parkwood Primary School the teaching and learning, achievements, attitudes, and well-being of every child matter. We recognize that some children require additional support in their learning at given times in their lives. Children are considered to have special educational needs if they have a particular need requiring special educational provision that is additional or different.
