Old Hall Drive Academy is a happy, vibrant two-form entry academy in Gorton where children are enthusiastic and motivated to achieve endless possibilities. The children are at the heart of every decision we make to ensure that they are happy and confident. We ensure that the opportunities and skills that are provided for them are relevant to their needs both now and in the future.
We are committed to developing the whole child and our curriculum is tailored to the needs of our pupils, preparing them for life beyond the classroom.
Through our engaging and exciting RESPECT curriculum, we ensure that children can foster a love for learning and curiosity that will help to develop high aspirations and a lifetime of memories. We believe in ensuring that children receive a well-rounded curriculum where individual talents can be spotted and nurtured to ensure that all children experience success and reach their full potential. Through the RESPECT curriculum, we help and actively encourage our pupils to be resilient show empathy have self-awareness, be positive, show excellence have good communication, and work as part of a team.
We aim to develop creative approaches to learning where children are engaged, excited, and enthused about what they are learning and are going to learn.
At Old Hall Drive, we have a committed team who work hard to constantly improve to ensure we reach high standards in everything we do. Our children are the stars of our school and very few visitors fail to comment on their politeness, enthusiasm, and behavior for learning. This is further embedded through our relationships with parents as we firmly believe that education is a partnership between home and school the local community and the other schools within the Wise Owl Trust.
Our mission is to deliver a top-quality education to all of our children across the Trust by tackling the barriers to learning and responding to contextual needs. We are committed to ensuring that our children are ready for the next stage in their life, equipping them with the necessary skills both academically and socially. We believe that successful learners are encouraged through hands-on experience, independence, and the application of Basic Skills through the challenge. The main focus of our Trust is therefore learning both inside the classroom and beyond, combining knowledge, respect, and aspirations.
Our Trust will carefully grow to maintain its family ethos at the heart. Academies will maintain their autonomy at the local level whilst taking advantage of the wider school improvement offer to build strong capacity from within. It is this model that will ensure future sustainability for individual academies and the family of schools as we grow. At Old Hall Drive Academy, children become part of a friendly cooperative environment where there is an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust. Every child is made to feel they have a vitally important role to play in the life of the school where their achievements are recognized and acknowledged.
The Education Act 2002 places a duty on schools to have arrangements in place to ensure that they safeguard and promote the welfare of children and follow statutory guidance. Governing Bodies must have someone who understands the requirements of the safeguarding guidance and legislation. At Old Hall Drive we are committed to ensuring the safety of all of our children with rigorous policies and procedures in place.
Each year the children in years 2 & 6 sit national tests to assess English and maths. Please click the link for a parents' guide to the tests. Two short videos give a quick overview of the tests and ways to support your child at this important time. If you have any questions please ask a member of the year 2 or 6 teams. Old Hall Drive Academy caters to children from 3 – 11 years old. We are inclusive and aim to meet all children’s needs and support their development in the most appropriate way to ensure they reach their full potential. We provide additional support for children with a range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). At the Wise Owl Trust, we believe that homework is important since it reinforces and extends the teaching and learning that occurs during the day. Homework encourages parental involvement in children’s learning and allows parents to engage in tasks with their child.
Every child will receive a reading book to be read daily at home with an adult. In Key Stage 1 and 2, every child will receive a piece of English and Maths homework every week. Each child in EYFS will receive a homework ‘menu’ with a variety of optional homework tasks to complete with an adult. ‘Spellings’ are sent out weekly. Homework should take up a manageable amount of a child’s balanced life. It should be an enjoyable portion of children’s time when parents can take an interest in their progress.
