Nottage Primary is a mixed English –medium primary school for pupils in the age range from 3 – 11. It was established originally in 1873 on the site at present occupied by Somerfield supermarket and was called “The Old National School”. In 1952, after being delayed by the Second World War, the current building was completed, and on June 5th the pupils of the old school assembled for the last time and marched to their new school. At present, the school has a pupil population of 446 pupils with 17 teachers plus the headteacher.
The school also has support staff working alongside the class teachers. There are 16 classes arranged in chronological order and the classes are mixed ability. Those pupils who are identified as requiring extra help are given support to meet their individual needs. Our nursery “Nottage Tiddlers” provides part-time and full-time education for children aged 3 – 4 years. Although this is non-statutory education, the nursery is an integral part of our school and these pupils are fully integrated into the life of the school. The school has large playgrounds with plenty of grassed areas which can be enjoyed in fine weather. These can be easily accessed from the main building.
The overall aim of Nottage Primary School is to ensure that every child feels valued as an individual whilst having a strong sense of community within the school. We want to encourage pupils in the development of an open and enquiring mind, fostering a desire to learn and a good attitude to work so they will grow into independent and discerning adults. At Nottage, we believe in allowing everyone to do his or her best in as wide a variety of activities and areas as is possible. We are here to help and by working together we can provide the best possible opportunities for the children in our care.
