The Government emphasizes that schools are required to ensure that key ‘British Values’ are taught in all UK schools. They define the fundamental British values as follows:

- Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
We teach British Values through a wide range of activities, some of these are implicit within the National and School Curricula, others are taught through explicit British Values lessons as part of the PSHE program of study.
We are all happy on our Early Years Quality Mark, Basic Skills Award, Dyslexia Award, Liverpool Counts Silver Quality Mark, Liverpool Reads Gold Quality Mark, Rights Respecting Schools, Investors in Pupils.
The school curriculum is based on two elements: The Early Years Foundation Stage framework (Reception classes), The National Curriculum for Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2), and Key Stage 2 (Years 3, 4, 5, and 6).
At Mosspits Lane Primary School, we use the DfE's program of study for English (2014) to underpin our teaching of Writing across KS1 and 2. The programs of study for writing at key stages 1 and 2 are constructed similarly to those for reading:
- Transcription (spelling and handwriting)
- Composition (articulating ideas and structuring them in speech and writing)
Also, pupils should be taught how to plan, revise and evaluate their writing. These aspects of writing have been incorporated into the programs of study for composition.
Writing down ideas fluently depends on effective transcription: that is, on spelling quickly and accurately through knowing the relationship between sounds and letters (phonics) and understanding the morphology (word structure) and orthography (spelling structure) of words.
Effective composition involves articulating and communicating ideas and then organizing them coherently for a reader. This requires clarity, awareness of the audience, purpose, and context, and an increasingly wide knowledge of vocabulary and grammar. Writing also depends on fluent, legible, and, eventually, speedy handwriting.
