We ensure that all children understand that they can make a difference and our curriculum aims to provide them with the self-esteem, resilience, academic and social tools to do so. Inclusion takes into account the needs of all pupils to ensure they have full access to learning. These needs may include children with a physical disability, children with a medical condition, children with learning difficulties, very able children, children who have English as their second language, children who have issues with their behavior, or children with social and emotional needs.
At Mayespark Primary School we have high expectations of children’s behavior to ensure that every child achieves his or her full potential. We aim to develop self-discipline. We have school rules, rewards, and consequences. Positive behavior is rewarded and there are sanctions for unacceptable behavior.
Children are regarded as having Special Educational Needs if they are having difficulty accessing the curriculum or if he/she is not reaching his/her expected potential. We aim to meet the needs of every individual child. Therefore, for a child with Special Educational Needs, we would provide appropriate individualized support.
The Class Teacher and our Inclusion Leader plan together to give children specific targets to work towards and they are shared with parents. If the children do not progress as expected we involve outside agencies such as the Educational Psychologist or Speech and Language Therapist for further assessment, advice, or support.
