We have exciting times ahead as our school home blossoms and we expect everyone to take pride in keeping it clean, bright, and sparkling. That is why our displays of the children’s work, the garden, and the litter-free grounds are an important contribution to the learning and pastoral care that every school adult is committed to providing for our wonderful children and their families.
Lowther Primary School is the best! Everybody gets on well and you have loads of friends. The teachers are friendly and teach excellent lessons. Some of the best things about Lowther are the fun lessons, all the trips we get to go on, the brilliant plays and drama we do, and we've got wicked clubs too.
Governors are often called 'critical friends', but we are not directly involved in the day-to-day running of the school. Our role is to build a supportive but challenging relationship with the headteacher, looking at all aspects of children's learning and wellbeing, and taking strategic decisions in the light of objective data. We ensure that policies are in place and are monitored, and work to make the school an inclusive, fair, and healthy place for children to learn and thrive. Governors sit on committees to oversee the school in more detail and report to the full Governing body. Both committees and the full Governing body meet approximately twice a term.
Lowther is an inclusive and pastoral school that sets high expectations for all learners, including children with SEND. We aim to provide an environment that celebrates achievements of all kinds and to develop independence and a love for learning. Children with SEND are included in all aspects of school life at Lowther. Lowther offers a wide range of clubs that support a variety of interests and skills. All children are encouraged to explore their interests and to share their talents. We ensure that children with SEND are included in all school learning and activities, and where necessary, reasonable adjustments are made to make this possible.
Lowther's team is small, but we can expand it to fit defined needs. The core membership is the Headteacher and a staff representative, plus one LA Governor and 2 parent Governors, who serve for 3 years. The rest of the team is currently made up of 8 co-opted Governors, whose skills fit the set we feel we need, to support and challenge the school effectively. They may serve for up to 4 years or a predetermined project-based term. We are also able to invite people with skills on which we would like to draw for a short or longer period to be Associate Governors.
We are very fortunate to have a PTA that is such an integral part of our school community. The PTA has raised thousands of pounds, which has been spent on equipment and resources to enhance our children's education and the school's facilities. Most recently we have paid for fifteen iPads, a 3D printer, a greenhouse, and a workspace in our fabulous allotment. This year we will be buying new outside play equipment and accompanying safety surfaces. Money raised by the PTA also funds school trips for those families who need some extra help. The PTA encourages closer links between home and school and is an excellent way to bring staff, parents, and friends together socially in support of our school.
All families are automatically members of the Lowther PTA when their children join our school. We welcome all parents and members of the school community to get involved. Every contribution, big or small, makes a huge difference. The PTA is conscious of the ethos and diversity of our school, and we try very hard when organizing and planning events to respect this. We're always open to new ideas for events or resources needed for the school.
Our PTA is a member of the NCPTA, which is a national charity and membership organization providing support and guidance for all home school associations in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Our association is one of over 13,000 members in the current membership of the NCPTA. We pay an annual membership fee to the NCPTA which gives us lots of member benefits including comprehensive insurance cover for all PTA-run events, support and advice on running the PTA plus fundraising ideas, and good practice hints and tips.
NCPTA also provides us with the opportunity to meet and communicate with other PTAs to discuss and share experiences. We receive termly publications, which are soon to be displayed on the PTA notice board and we receive guidance to ensure our events are legal and safe.
