Longfield Middle School first opened in 1935. Its first Headteacher was Miss Holliday. The school is steeped in traditions some of which are still evident today. From the time it has opened it has always had a Head boy and Head girl as well as Deputies.
The School Motto is “Think of Others” It emerged when Miss Holliday was drawing school rules, trying to make them few and as reasonable as they could be. Her nephew (who was also a teacher at the school) said “why not end with ‘Think of Others’ because it is the basis for all rules.” Thus it summed up the rules and proved to be an excellent school motto.
At Longfield Primary School we believe that there are clear benefits for children who spend regular periods on different learning activities outside of school. We see home learning as an important way of not only establishing a successful dialogue between teachers and parents but also involving parents in the education of their child. Families are in a unique position to provide some very important opportunities for their children that perhaps a school is unable to provide.
Longfield teachers will normally set home learning tasks once a week, over and above the usual reading tasks. However, home learning activities do not have to be prescribed by the teacher and may include: reading, walking the dog, attending a club, playing a board game, visiting a museum, going swimming - all of which are invaluable developmental activities. Children also need time after school to play, socialize and engage in child-type activities and out-of-school clubs.
Inclusion is an integral part of Longfield Primary School's ethos. Meeting the needs of all our pupils is a priority. We have a holistic approach to meeting the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and English as an Additional Language (EAL). We are committed to ensuring that everything we do in our school reflects our inclusive ethos and benefits all our learners. We work closely with outside agencies and families of children with additional needs to ensure that the children are well supported and make good progress
Longfield Primary School believes that every pupil should have the opportunity to develop their talents and academic abilities in a happy and supportive environment. The funding will be spent on ensuring that all Pupil Premium Pupils are making progress in the key skills needed to succeed. The pupil premium is allocated to schools for pupils who have been known to be eligible for free school meals during the last six years. As a school, we are committed to spending this money to support the raising of attainment for these pupils.
