Welcome to LIPA Primary School. We opened with two reception classes in September 2014 and continue to grow with two new reception classes each year until we are full in 2021. Each year we take 52 new children into Reception with our class sizes fixed at 26. We are now in our fourth year with our oldest children in Year 3. We recently had our first OFSTED inspection in July 2017.
We want children to enjoy and take part in the creative and performing arts (drama, dance, and music and also in areas which make such performance possible, e.g. sound, light, visual arts, set design and construction, and costumes). By learning about and through the creative and performing arts, we immerse children in attractive and enjoyable learning experiences.
Our school is a vibrant and exciting place to learn, where children are happy, engaged, motivated, and well-behaved.
At LIPA Primary School we believe all children should receive outstanding teaching from expert and well-qualified teaching staff. We ensure that the creative and performing arts are used to enhance children's experiences across the curriculum to develop their learning.
LIPA Primary School opened in September 2014 in the center of Liverpool, enjoying excellent purpose-built facilities. We immerse children in the creative and performing arts to enrich teaching and learning in the early development of language, reading, writing, and mathematics skills. We provide outstanding education, focusing strongly on English, Mathematics, Science, and the creative and performing arts using an engaging curriculum, inspiring teachers, and excellent learning resources to help pupils to enjoy and succeed in learning.
We provide children with outstanding teaching across the primary and early years curriculum so that they make excellent progress and enjoy learning. Our outstanding learning promotes the development of your child’s skills through the creative and performing arts.
We learn best when we are actively and creatively enthusiastic in our learning. Children, no less than adults, increase understanding, knowledge, develop skills and explore their attitudes and values working alongside people of their age.
Project and event-based learning in real life will help pupils to understand the practical world and develop skills and qualities that can last a lifetime. As a school we aim to:

LIPA Primary School provides the children with an engaging and active curriculum. Our bespoke curriculum is designed to meet the needs of the children in school, providing them with a broad and balanced program full of exciting opportunities to learn in all subjects in a variety of different ways. Project-Based Learning and the Arts are at the heart of our curriculum. We are deployed to teach subjects such as PE and Music. Our curriculum is fun … it is real … it is effective. Children love learning at LIPA!
We believe learning should be a fun and rewarding experience through which children successfully learn a variety of skills, knowledge, and understanding that will equip them for further education and later life. Our curriculum provides children with an appropriate level of challenge as well as support and inspiration so that they can make very good progress in all aspects of their learning. The curriculum promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental, and physical development of the pupils and unlocks and nurtures the unique potential within our children.
Pupils within the Early Years Foundation Stage follow recommendations set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum. This involves the pupils learning through three prime and four specific areas:
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Personal, Social, and Emotional Development
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding of the World
- Expressive Art & Design
We use the 'Letters and Sounds scheme to teach phonics. Where appropriate this is supported by resources from other phonics schemes such as Floppy’s Phonics and School Improvement Liverpool KS1 plans.
Our Key Stage One reading scheme is 'The Oxford Reading Tree' supplemented by selected real books. We enhance this with Bug Club books and online reading resources.
We love to sing and be musical. Music affects many parts of our brains and through music, we can communicate strong emotions differently. We can express what we feel and share musical experiences as large groups. Music is a language and the more we learn, the more we want to say.
All children have weekly singing lessons by a music specialist and they can also learn a musical instrument if they want to – piano, harp, or ukulele. They take part in musical activities during the school year including Nativity plays, end-of-project productions, and school assemblies. We can sing both the melody line and in harmony with each other and both boys and girls love to sing at our school. Music has become a part of who we are.
We are a very active school and dedicates a significant proportion of time to physical activity and Physical Education. We work closely with Little Sports to support us with our PE curriculum and to enhance PE during outdoor play and after-school clubs.
