Forrester High School will strive to ensure that all young people have access to tailored learning pathways that meet the needs of all our learners. We will work closely to ensure our learners know how to progress their learning. This will enable them to gain the skills, experiences, and qualifications they need to achieve a successful, positive, and sustained destination on leaving school.
Our school aims to provide all of our learners with a positive experience and we want to make learning fun and exciting for our students.
We are committed to establishing the school as a center of excellence within our community and seek to challenge all of our young people to make the most of the learning and extra-curricular opportunities available to them. Most importantly, we want them to enjoy their learning.
We will provide the highest quality learning experiences in a supportive and caring environment. We want to make every student's experience unique. One which is tailored to individual student's needs enabling them to achieve their full potential.
We are proud to say we are the first City of Edinburgh Council secondary school to achieve this award! At FHS we constantly strive to improve our curriculum, as well as our extra-curricular opportunities, to provide the best possible experience for all our young people.
The school will now continue to work towards Level 2 of the award, by which point we will have children’s rights firmly and sustainably embedded in every aspect of school life. We can only achieve this by working together – staff, parents, and pupils.
This is a school at the heart of its community and we want to draw on the rich resources available to all of us to ensure students have a stimulating, rewarding, challenging, and enjoyable time at school. We want to work in partnership with you to ensure that together we develop young people who are fully equipped to deal with the challenges they face when they leave school and have the motivation and determination to succeed in their chosen path in life.
When reviewing or creating any new policies or services within our school, we give due regard to all protected groups and consider whether any individual or group might experience a particularly positive or negative impact. We keep a record of this and where necessary we take steps to reduce any negative impact.
We actively encourage all our young people to participate in school and extra-curricular activities including our student council. We take positive action to make sure that the diverse school population is represented in all aspects of school community life.
The school day at Forrester High School doesn’t end at 3.30 pm when the bell rings. It continues past this, with a huge range of extracurricular physical activity and sports clubs on offer, Monday through to Friday and even some lunchtimes.
The clubs are open to everyone from S1-6 and are mainly an opportunity to have fun, participate in different activities, and stay fit, although there is the opportunity to enter competitions and festivals for some sports. Where possible, the clubs also have links with sports clubs in the local community, providing opportunities to participate beyond school as well.
