The Academy enjoys excellent examination results at both GCSE and Post-16 a result of our commitment to our motto ‘Sinceritas Laboris’ there is dignity in labor! The Academy’s experienced staff are knowledgeable and skilled and ensure that every child, regardless of starting point, is supported to optimize his/her academic achievements.
Our House system is at the heart of the school and has been in place for the best part of 60 years. This commitment to our school traditions ensures that every child has the opportunity to participate in activities that develop him/her as a person. Such activities include our annual Eisteddfod, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, local and national sporting events, and many artistic performances.
We believe that every young person should leave school fully prepared for life in modern Britain. No matter what their starting point, a student at Fairfax are encouraged to become valuable and fully rounded members of society who treat others with respect and tolerance. An integral part of student SMSC development is the active promotion of British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. At Fairfax, these values permeate throughout the school and are reinforced regularly in the curriculum.
At Fairfax, all pupils are actively encouraged to make choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. As a school, we educate and provide boundaries for students to make informed choices, through a safe environment and an empowering education. Pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and are advised how to exercise these safely. Whether it is through the choice of challenge, or how they record participation in our numerous extracurricular clubs and opportunities, pupils are given the freedom to make choices.
Mutual respect is at the heart of our values. Students learn that their behaviors affect their rights and those of others. All members of the school community are expected to treat each other with respect. This is made plain in our school motto “All of us, all of the time.” Assemblies, tutor activities, and the House System reinforce and reiterate the centrality of mutual respect in the fabric of life at Fairfax School.
