Edgware Primary School was the first school in Barnet to become part of the Children’s University (CU) and officially became Barnet Children’s University in December 2013. Our Children’s University leader became Barnet CU Manager responsible for the organization of out-of-school provision for children in KS1 and KS2. Working together with outside providers, Barnet CU offers high-quality clubs for children to develop a range of skills and expertise across a variety of experiences. An important aspect of the CU is that the activities feel different from what the children do during the school day.
As a school, we use a percentage of our Pupil Premium funding to target participation by pupils in that group. Taking part in the clubs not only raises children’s aspirations but also gives them a love of learning, enabling them to make the most of their abilities and interests. At the end of the school year, those children who have spent 30 hours or more taking part in clubs receive a certificate at a Graduation ceremony held at Middlesex University.
As a school in the heart of Edgware, we serve a community with pupils from across the world. With over 38 different languages spoken, we take pride in celebrating our diversity through events such as ‘Language of the Month’ assemblies and ‘Christmas around the World’.

We encourage pupils to become active members of our school community. We aim to give pupils the confidence and a ‘can do’ attitude in becoming a positive member of their community.
We are continually looking at best practices and our school is ever-evolving. We work hard to make sure children are engaged and enjoy learning. We take pride in expanding pupils’ love of learning beyond the normal school day through additional clubs both before and after school. In developing our broader curriculum offer, we are proud to be a member of Children’s University and also prestigiously named as ‘The Children’s University Barnet’. We celebrate childhood and prepare our pupils for life-long learning amongst our many cultures. Our children designed our logo to celebrate their affinity with the world around them and their world of learning here at Edgware Primary.
