The Eco-Schools program is an international initiative designed to encourage whole-school action for the environment. It is an environmental management tool, learning resource, and recognized award scheme. Schools who have met the criteria can apply for an assessment for the Green Flag, a highly prestigious internationally recognized award.
We are also very grateful to our supportive parents, staff, and local community for all the help they have given us in the past and continue to give. Young people are passionate about our environment, on both a local and global level. The Eco-Schools Programme provides our pupils with a platform to learn about, and take part in the action to tackle many of the planet's environmental problems, such as climate change.
In Eastmuir school regained our status as an eco-school by growing fruit and vegetables, creating a sensory garden, recycling, and keeping our grounds clean and tidy. Eco-Schools was created to focus efforts to ‘think global, act locally. Pupils are encouraged to become involved in projects that have an impact on their local community. The more schools involved, the greater the benefit on a global scale.
We seek to:
- Provide a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment in which our children learn positive attitudes, develop good self-esteem, and become confident individuals
- Ensure our children develop an understanding of their own and others feelings, cultures and beliefs and become responsible global citizens
- Create and provide a variety of opportunities for learning, in school and outdoors, for the children which will stimulate and interest their imagination and encourage their intellectual and skills development to enable them to become successful learners
- Extend our children’s abilities to communicate ideas and feelings and become effective contributors in all areas of the curriculum
- Enable all children and young people to access an inclusive curriculum that provides the appropriate support and challenge to allow them to fully develop their skills and talents.
- Promote Health and Wellbeing for all pupils to ensure that children develop the knowledge and understanding, skills, capabilities, and attributes which they need for mental, emotional, social, and physical wellbeing now and in the future.
- Work co-operatively with the Bannerman Learning Community and the wider community to share good practice and to ensure smooth transitions from one establishment to another.
