We are proud to offer free after-school clubs each night of the week as well as a daily breakfast club and a variety of activities during lunchtimes. At the end of their school day, children attending a club go to the hall and can enjoy a healthy snack and a drink if they wish to before they start their extended learning. The school funds all the costs incurred so these are also free. A special thank you goes to the staff that generously give up their time to run these activities. We try to ensure our clubs reflect the feedback we receive from children and parents. If you have an idea for a club, please contact our school office and we will consider it when we plan our future provision.
Each school has been asked to publish a statement about how they ensure that pupils are developing a full and balanced understanding. At Eastbury Primary School we are proud to represent several cultures and faiths and always strive to promote these key aspects of being a well-rounded citizen.
Eastbury Primary School has an ARP for Deaf Children (Additional Resource Provision). We offer a highly qualified and experienced staff to support deaf children throughout the school from Nursery to Year 6. We have a specialist head of provision, teachers of the deaf (ToD), and Education and Communication Support Workers (ECSW’s) who support children using a bimodal bilingual communication approach using speech and sign language. We work both in mainstream classes and lessons and also offer specialist withdrawal lessons and small group work, including reverse inclusion groups with hearing children.
We use British Sign Language (BSL) and Signed Supported English (SSE) across the whole school with many staff who are trained or training to use sign language. We use sign language for all assemblies including singing assemblies, and to help hearing children learn also. We offer a sign language-friendly environment and are proud of our deaf children, their culture, and their identity within the school. We support our families, staff, and the local community through home visits, sign language classes and clubs, and our Deaf Empowerment And Friends (D.E.A.F) Support Group is an affiliate group for the National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS).
Homework is set by the class teachers and sent to all pupils every Thursday. The expectation is for these tasks to be completed to the highest standard by the following Tuesday.
Daily number practice is also essential for Mathematical development, as children are expected to solve addition and subtraction problems (including decimals) and quickly recall all times and division tables to 12 by the end of Year 4 at the very latest. We also strongly recommend that children keep a diary where they write extensively about the most memorable events of their day.
Children at Eastbury Primary School are organized into four different Houses as specified in our behavior and rewards system. All Houses have developed their own distinctive identities through identification with their name, color, logo, and motto. Our school encourages engagement with inter-house activities and assemblies. Since it was introduced, the house system has changed our school atmosphere and ethos. It has allowed pupils to have a greater sense of belonging build support for younger students from older ones improve corridor behavior and improve understanding of other year group events and issues for all students.
Read Write Inc. is a method of learning letter sounds and phonics, and we use it here at Eastbury Primary School to aid children in their literacy. Reading opens the door to learning. A child who reads a lot will become a good reader. A good reader will be able to read more challenging material. A child who reads challenging material is a child who will learn. The more a child learns, the more he or she will want to find out.
Using Read Write, the children learn to read effortlessly so that they can put all their energy into comprehending what they read. It also allows them to spell effortlessly so that they can put all their energy into composing what they write.
