The Dragon’s reputation as a School where every child can find, explore and develop their talents has been well earned over many generations. Our sense of philanthropy, kindness, and service, shared by Dragons young and old, also reflects the School’s founding values and core ethos.
Our pupils are articulate, happy, and engaged. They become life-long learners, team players, leaders, and innovators. True to our School’s foundation, girls and boys are encouraged to use their imaginations, think creatively, explore the world around them, and strive for excellence. We equip our pupils with the skills they will need for their future senior schools and the world beyond.
Surrounded by the university city of Oxford, pupils at the Dragon are immersed in an inspiring and varied academic curriculum. The children benefit from excellent facilities and a tremendous range of extra-curricular, cultural, and sporting activities. Indeed, across the curriculum, many of our pupils achieve scholarships and awards to a range of senior schools.
Every child, whether a boarding or day pupil, from overseas and those living closer to home, are all nurtured and cared for as individuals. Here, friendships are made and lessons learned that will last a lifetime.
The tradition of social and environmental impact is central to life at the Dragon and can be seen in the remarkable leadership and achievements of many Old Dragons. From the moment children enter the Dragon, philanthropy is a key part of their curriculum. Through partnerships with local schools and charities, fund and awareness-raising, presentations, and visits, we help pupils think about how people make a difference to local, national, and global issues. We draw attention to the characteristics of those individuals and organizations whose vision, energy, compassion, dedication, and generosity are already making a difference.
Young Dragons recognize problems and learn to identify the steps required to develop solutions and to focus on the positive impact education can have on social and environmental problems. We hope that through the experience and awareness gained at the Dragon we can encourage our pupils to be leaders in philanthropy and social entrepreneurship, to become the visionaries who will set the future agenda for beneficial social transformation.
One School on two sites, positioned on the edge of the university city of Oxford, the Dragon combines traditional architecture with contemporary design. Sitting proudly amid open playing fields and along the banks of the River Cherwell, original buildings have been reworked and modernized, with their traditional features kept very much in place. As we enter the grounds, our playing fields greet you and the Dragon warmly welcomes you in.
