We are often asked, “What makes d’Overbroeck’s different from other schools?”. The answer lies in our shared values and a relaxed but vibrant atmosphere, where the individual is key and laughter is an essential part of everyday life.
Our ethos is firmly built on personal relationships, on a relative lack of stuffiness and formal hierarchies, and a strong belief that every individual is at the heart of the school. At the same time, our approach is distinctly collaborative. We believe in leading by example, in a healthy dose of flexibility, and the power of laughter and humanity. ‘Enthusiasm’, ‘maturity’ and ‘courtesy’ are words that visitors to the school frequently use to describe us. We provide an environment that gives both staff and students the space to be themselves as well as the encouragement and stimulus to grow, to learn, to engage with complexity and to achieve their goals. And they’ll also have time for friendship, laughter, and living life to the full.
It's not often these days that the Head of a school is there at the gates to see everyone in at the start of the day. But that's what happens each morning when our Years 7 to 11 arrive at Leckford Place. Mark, the Head of this part of d'Overbroeck's is there to welcome everyone. It's a chance to catch up, share news and check up on how things are going. It's part of us being a family school where everyone knows everyone else and where we work together.
d'Overbroeck's Sixth Form in Oxford is the biggest part of our school. In addition to our Year 11s progressing through, we have a substantial intake of new students (some 130) who join our Lower Sixth each year - a mix of day students and boarders of students who choose to move to d’Overbroeck’s from other independent and state schools locally, from other parts of the UK and from abroad.
If you’re an international student aged between 13 and 15, d'Overbroeck's International school in Oxford has a wide range of courses to help you take your first steps in English education. Whether you want to study IGCSEs in one year, two years, 4 or 5 terms, enroll in our Pre-IGCSE program, or experience studying at a UK school on our Study Abroad course, then our International School is the perfect place to begin.
d’Overbroeck’s offers an exceptional academic and extra-curricular program that provides excellent opportunities for individual growth through shared values and an ethos of commitment to each other.
We’re often asked what makes d’Overbroeck’s different from other schools. Well of course we offer a progressive and far-reaching academic curriculum delivered by committed and brilliant staff in excellent facilities. And of course, the learning environment is supported by a huge range of sporting, cultural and academic extra-curriculum activities. The school’s success in delivering this program of excellence is evident in our exceptional exam results, in students’ joyful achievements in their extra-curricular activities, and in the enthusiastic endorsement we receive from current and former parents and students.
This success is not accidental. It’s based on an ethos of support for every individual, on the development of shared values, and on offering a caring, creative, nurturing, and relatively informal environment that encourages every single student to create the very best versions of themselves, both for today and the future.
But it’s not just about individual achievement. At d’Overbroeck’s, we embrace the understanding that we are all in this journey together, that each person – staff as well as students – contributes to the life of the school and of the wider community in their own unique and valuable way. It’s an ethos that recognizes that humans do not exist in isolation that we depend on connection, community, and caring – quite simply, our humanity depends on each other.
