We are a large school with 465 pupils aged from 3-11. We serve a diverse community with 25 languages currently spoken by pupils in school. Crumpsall Lane is a good place to work and learn and we see ourselves as a: Caring Learning Positive School.
As the Admissions Authority for the community and voluntary controlled schools in Manchester, the LA is required to draft, consult on, and determine their admission arrangements. Where there are more applicants than places available the LA will apply the admission arrangements to decide which applicants will be offered places.
Admission arrangements for voluntary aided schools, foundation schools, free schools, and academies are set by their Governing Body, who are the Admission Authority for their establishment. They are responsible for drafting, consulting on, and determining their admission arrangements. Copies of admissions arrangements for these types of schools/academies in Manchester can be found on the school/academy website and the LA’s website. They are also available on request from the relevant school/academy and the LA.
All parents/carers are required to apply to their home LA regards of where the school/academy they are applying to is situated. Manchester residents will apply to Manchester LA. The LA will liaise with other Admissions Authorities in Manchester and other LAs where required. Manchester LA will inform parent/carers in writing of the outcome of their application
At Crumpsall Lane, we think it is important that children have a say in their learning and that their opinions and views are listened to and acted upon. In line with this, we have a school learning council. Each class has voted for their learning councilors and two children have been selected from each class. As part of their responsibilities, our learning counselors hold class councils where they will ask their classmates for 2 stars (things that they like about their learning) and 2 wishes (2 things they would like to improve about their learning). We will then have meetings roughly every 2 weeks to review the children's feedback. We will even have the opportunity to quiz the senior leadership team next week.
A school's governing body is a corporate body. This means it has a legal existence separate from that of its members. As long as governors have acted honestly, without ulterior motive, and reasonably, within the law and regulations, the governing body can't be held to account as individuals for any liabilities incurred by the governing body.
Health and safety is an important consideration for our school. We will take all reasonable steps to provide a safe and caring environment for children, staff, and our visitors. All personal data/information maintained in this respect will be held in the strictest confidence in line with relevant legislation.
The purpose of homework activities at Crumpsall Lane Primary is to actively involve parents as partners in their children’s education. Supporting children’s learning by listening and encouraging them to talk about their school day reinforces the teaching that goes on in school time.
At Crumpsall Lane Primary we do not set regular photocopied sheets of calculations, spellings, or grammar tasks as of old because this does not fit with our philosophy. We recognize that children need time to do the wealth of other activities that make them rounded individuals like sports and creative activities, visiting family and friends, playing, attending uniformed organizations, religious activities, and, most importantly, relaxing. We ask that parents see homework tasks in the context of wider family life and support their children in all their learning experiences. Homework clubs are open to KS2 pupils to attend after school.
In conclusion, the best way that parents and carers can support their child’s development and learning is by spending time talking to them and giving them their full attention. Ten minutes of quality time in a day can make a huge difference. At Crumpsall Lane Primary School we've been thinking about the language we use to help our pupils learn, and we thought it would be great to share this here so parents and carers can use the same language when working with their sons and/or daughters at home.
At Crumpsall Lane Primary School we teach the National Curriculum, comprising the core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, and Computing, along with the foundation subjects: History, Geography, Design and Technology, Art and Design, Music, Physical Education, Religious Education, and Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education. At Crumpsall Lane Primary School we bring the National Curriculum alive through a Learning Challenge Curriculum, which promotes inquiry-based learning through a skills-based curriculum.
The internet is a fantastic place overflowing with knowledge, games, and communities of people, and, just like pupils across the country, the pupils here at Crumpsall Lane Primary School spent a great deal of time using the internet within the school and at home. This is why it is important pupils at CLPS learn how to be safe when browsing online and becoming members of online communities.
