The school was built to take the children from Moredun and Fernieside Nurseries and Primary schools in 2002. Our school sits on one of the old football pitches belonging to the community. When the school opened the pupils drew what they thought the new school badge would look like. We met with an artist and together took the most popular elements, and our school badge emerged. The children also chose the color of the uniform is a red jumper and Primary 7 in grey.
From small seeds, all things grow and our school has grown since opening in January 2003. With the strong roots of two schools, we have come through a rainbow of times and continue to add to our branches and leaves.
Pupils have been encouraged to participate in 2 hours of PE After School Clubs to continue to raise health and fitness awareness. Pupils have become more confident in setting their targets and next steps through their learning. We had the unfortunate experience of being decanted for the final term of the session which brought out different strengths for us all! Before the decant we had continued with educational outings, open afternoons, parents in school, after and pre-school activities along with a busy and varied curriculum.
The Parent Council raised money which paid for a visiting theatre musical performance and bought math resources including math games for each class to use. We took part in an art project with the new Sick Children’s hospital. This artwork is now on display at the hospital and the originals will be hung in the school. We held our whole school functions in the Tron Church -Nursery Graduation, Primary 7 Dance, End of Year Assembly.
We are delighted this year to see an increase in the number of parents volunteering to work alongside us in the school. The Parent Council is very busy planning the year calendar to fundraise and support the school in all areas of the curriculum from classwork to outdoor journeys, matters affecting the community
Staff continues to involve children in setting their targets and understanding their next steps in learning. Active Learning will be integral to delivering CfE. Learning Journals are adding the facility for parents to include out-of-school achievements to their child’s portfolio. Our I-pad club for Parents and Pupils in Primary 2 will continue. French and Spanish are our two additional languages offered. We are delighted to have the support of parents helping in the class…reading groups, crafts, languages, and sport.

If you have a mobile number we can send you information instantly, reply to absence messages and keep you in the loop about what is happening in and around the school. Our school website is the ideal way to keep abreast of what your child has been learning. Full of pictures and video, it aims to give you a window into your child’s education.
