The school expects high standards of behavior from everyone. We have six school values which must be kept at all times. Through PHSE, assemblies, and teachers setting clear expectations we ensure that pupils have a good understanding of what good behavior at Canon Barnett looks like.
Children are encouraged to think about their actions and reflect on the effect it has on other people. The school will not tolerate bullying or racism in any way and parents will be informed straight away if their child is involved in any of these so that we can work together to bring about changes.
We aim to ensure that all children have access to the full curriculum and can achieve at the highest level. There are many ways in which we can support children who have special needs.
The curriculum at Canon Barnett is built around the principles of children being active learners and deep thinkers as they use questions as the starting point to extend and challenge their knowledge and understanding.
The curriculum is planned around prime learning challenges which are expressed as a question as to the starting point. Using pre-learning tasks and the school's context a series of subsidiary challenges are then planned. There are times when not all subjects support the prime learning challenge and children may study these discretely.
We have a whole-school approach to the teaching of Personal, Health, Social and Economic education through the use of the Jigsaw scheme of work. There are six puzzles taught across the year, which follow and build upon previous learning. The whole school will be learning about the same topic but at a level that is appropriate to their age.
