'Follow The Gleam' is our school motto. It originates from a poem by Alfred, Lord Tennyson called 'Merlin and the Gleam' first published in 1889. The Gleam can be best described as our light of inner inspiration, or the individual light that guides each of our girls throughout her time at this school.

Bruton School for Girls has been helping girls ignite their passions and follow their dreams since 1900. With a broad and creative curriculum that's future fit, engaging and motivated teaching, and a range of extra-curricular activities for a healthy body and mind.

We hope you enjoy exploring our website and bringing the school to life - better still why not come and see for yourself what makes Bruton School for Girls a special place to learn. Bruton School for Girls is a school for the real world, where through a broad and balanced curriculum and excellent pastoral care and support, we prepare girls for life beyond education. Our girls leave us equipped with inner strength, resilience, and outer confidence ready to take on new challenges and navigate life's ups and downs. Our aim is that the girls receive an education for life and the tools to live their best possible lives.

We create, for every girl, an environment with the space to inspire, challenge, encourage and support her to develop her full potential to become the amazing person she can be in this fast-changing world, with friends for life. Each individual is encouraged to develop intellectual curiosity, self-esteem, confidence without arrogance, respect and care for others, independence, excellence in all she does, and a love of life.

    • To experience and enjoy success and develop resilience in as broad a range of spheres as possible
    • To develop self-confidence, self-awareness, and self-respect, appreciating the cultural and spiritual aspects of life
    • To be part of an active community based on mutual respect with responsibilities to each other and society at large
    • To develop the capacity to make informed, rational, and responsible decisions
    • At all times to feel motivated by their studies and to be aware of their level of performance and progress and to realize their full potential

On a day-to-day basis, it means that girls can simply be themselves. They gain experience of holding positions of responsibility throughout school and are used to seeing women as leaders, so they carry this expectation forward with them. We understand girls - their complexities and their anxieties - and our caring and supportive environment allow them the freedom to express themselves, find and use their voice, and be heard.
