A Blundell's education offers considerable breadth and diversity as well as a wealth of opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. We are located in the heart of the West Country an idyllic setting in the rolling Devon hills with easy access to National Parks and some of the best coastline in Britain.
When you choose Blundell’s as the school for your son or daughter you open up a world of opportunities for them. For some their journey begins at our Pre-Prep, for others, it is in our Sixth Form, but wherever a pupil starts we are confident that the thread of the Blundell’s Experience is consistently woven throughout their daily lives.
At Blundell’s, we see education as being so much more than exam results. We see education as being about developing young men and women who are ready to make a meaningful difference to their communities. While our pupils are with us we hope that their schooling will be an extraordinarily fulfilling and uplifting experience for them. At Blundell’s, we focus on teaching pupils how to have good relationships, both with each other and with the adults in their lives. We ensure that each pupil will have a sense of achievement, to experience the satisfaction of having done something well, by being successful. We help pupils to find meaning and purpose in their endeavors and we fuel them with the optimism they need to believe that they can make a difference. Overall, we want their lives at school to be deeply engaging. We want pupils to love being at school and to throw themselves into the opportunities this wonderful place has to offer.
At Blundell’s, you will often hear us talk of “Roots and Wings”.
We aspire to give our pupils the Roots to keep them grounded and to give them a secure foundation, with the Wings to give them the courage and the optimism to realize their full selves.
Roots come from developing the skill set that will allow pupils to be lifelong, dynamic learners. We desire to instill a deep love of learning in pupils that will allow them to learn and thrive in all environments in their working lives, in their leisure, or in their relationships. Knowing how to learn is the greatest gift we can give our children.
At the heart of helping pupils to become effective learners is our desire to help pupils to know and understand themselves better. Self-knowledge is a cornerstone of Blundell’s education and equips our pupils to relate positively with others and to have the awareness, emotional intelligence, and the confidence to know what to do when in different settings and circumstances. This, allied with deep empathy, compassion for others, and the optimism to make a meaningful difference in whatever setting they find themselves in, is at the heart of the social conscience for which we strive.
Wings are supported by the passion for adventure and discovery that runs through everything we do.
