A Very Warm Welcome to Blackmoor Park Junior School. We work very hard to provide the very best opportunities to all pupils so that we develop the 'whole child. Our Mission Statement, "By Living Together, Learning Together and Playing Together We Will All Achieve" reflects this and forms the basis of all our work in the school.
We want children who come to our school to be happy, safe, and to enjoy their learning. The school provides a rich variety of activities in and out of school hours, including an annual residential field trip for Year 6 children.
Our school has gained both national and local awards Investors In People, Healthy School Status, Basic Skills Quality Mark, Liverpool Inclusion Charter Mark, Active Mark Silver Games Mark, Silver Reading Quality Mark, and Gold Maths Quality Mark We are all rightly proud of our many achievements and always realize that everyone can always improve in what they do. Here at Blackmoor Park Junior School, we are committed to serving our community and surrounding areas and we recognize the ever-changing nature of the United Kingdom and the beliefs, cultures, and faiths of people who live here.
Children have many opportunities for their voices to be heard. Each year children contribute and decide upon their own class rules and the rights associated with these. We have a pupil-elected School Council and Eco Council which meets regularly to discuss school issues meetings. Our four school teams, Walker, Lever, Maritime, and Tate are led by both boy and girl Team Captains who have been elected by their peers. Poppies are sold in each class in the weeks leading up to November 11th when the whole of our school community comes to a standstill for two minutes at 11.00 am on the playground.
Within school, pupils are actively encouraged to make choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. As a school, we educate and provide boundaries for pupils to make choices safely, through the provision of a safe environment and empowering education. Pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and advised how to exercise these safely, for example through our E-Safety and PSHE lessons. Whether it be through choice of learning challenge, or how they record or participation in our numerous extra-curricular clubs and opportunities, pupils are given the freedom to make choices.
Mutual respect is at the heart of our values. Children learn that their behaviors affect their rights and those of others. All members of the school community are encouraged to treat each other with respect and remember good manners.
The importance of Laws, whether they be those that govern the class, the school, or the country, are consistently reinforced throughout regular school days, as well as when dealing with any behavior and through school assemblies. Pupils are taught the value and reasons behind laws, that they govern and protect us, the responsibilities that this involves, and the consequences when laws are broken. Visits from authorities such as the Police and Fire Service help reinforce this message.
The school provides a broad and balanced curriculum that engages the children. All subjects are planned to ensure that there is progression across the whole school, with each year group building upon skills taught in previous year groups. Teachers plan enrichment opportunities to bring their subjects to life such as educational visits and visitors who are specialists in the area studied. Cross-curricular links with ICT motivate and enthuse the children within our curriculum and develops independent learning. Each subject is led by a member of the teaching staff who is passionate about the area and leads further developments in the curriculum.
