We believe that the partnership between school and home is an important part of a child’s development and we have an open-door policy where parents are encouraged to come into school to talk about their child’s progress and development whenever they feel it is necessary. We know that children are happiest when home and school work together for their benefit and many opportunities will arise for you to be involved during your child’s time with us.

We believe strongly that all children should be valued and taught in a positive and high-quality learning environment to develop their talents, learning attitudes, and character.
At Banks Road Primary School, children are valued as individuals and experience high-quality learning. All learning is relevant to the children’s lives and encourages strong home-school links. All children are supported to develop a deeper understanding of self, enabling them to grow into responsible members of society.

The original school was built between 1904 and 1907 and was in use until December 1999. Whilst it was being built, the pupils were in a temporary corrugated iron building, which was near St Francis Church in Garston Village.
At Banks Road Primary School we offer our pupils a broad, balanced, and relevant curriculum that meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and the National Curriculum. It enables all pupils to reach their full potential and prepares them for their future success.
We teach the 2014 Primary National Curriculum using a subject-based approach and make cross-curricular links. Trips and outings are central to the children's learning experience. In addition to this, they will have a series of memorable learning experiences, which may include inspirational speakers, key visitors to the school, themed days, a recreated experience in school, or hot seating a guest or fictional character. We use a range of teaching strategies that take into account how children learn to foster engagement, motivation, and creativity.
Our curriculum alongside the Primary National Curriculum promotes the spiritual, moral, cultural, mental, and physical development of pupils and prepares pupils for the opportunities and experiences of later life.
Children learn through first hand, stimulating experiences across seven areas of learning, which include three prime areas and four specific areas:

- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Art and Design
Our Early Years curriculum is designed to equip our children with opportunities to explore, investigate and wonder to promote three characteristics of learning:
- Active Learning
- Playing and Exploring
- Creating and Thinking Critically
Both Nursery and Reception classes follow the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage, with both classes taught by a qualified teacher. High expectations and high-quality teaching enable all children to develop and extend their knowledge and understanding, skills, and abilities in a safe and secure learning environment.
