We are proud to be an all-through Academy for students aged 3-19 and an Adult Learning Centre. Our ‘state of the art facilities has benefited from extensive capital funding. The most recent developments include the Arc in the primary phase and the Quad in the secondary phase. Extensive sports facilities including a Community Sports Centre are enjoyed by students and staff at the Academy and members of our wider communities alike. The Academy is fortunate in that it owns its own ‘Academy Fields’ a large section of fertile land and the perfect environment for outdoor learning.

We welcome children from the term in which they are three. From the moment your child enters our Nursery, they will be encouraged to follow their natural curiosity and to become independent learners through exciting and absorbing activities with the guidance of our caring and experienced Nursery team. We offer an early year’s education based upon play and first-hand experiences with skilled adult interactions, providing a high level of care, a superb learning environment, and a committed staff. These daily experiences lay strong foundations of improved speaking and listening, social awareness, self-confidence, independence, and Literacy and Numeracy skills.
Settling into the early years is an important time for young children and their families. For some children, this will be the first time they may have been left with another person and often the first time they have been left in a larger environment. At Alec Reed Academy we aim to make this process as smooth as possible. All children and families are unique and their individual needs are taken into account throughout the settling-in process.
Alec Reed Academy is a publicly funded independent school. Nursery classes at the Academy admit children aged between three and five years old. The admission number is 52 children in the morning nursery classes and 52 in the afternoon nursery classes. Children generally start nursery the September after their third birthday. If there are places still available after those children have been offered and accepted places, younger children will be considered and may start nursery when they are three.
We believe that in the Early Years, children learn most effectively through play. The children are encouraged to participate in all of the activities whether indoors in our large and bright classroom or outside in their dedicated playground.
We offer a rich and varied curriculum in a safe and engaging environment. We understand that children develop at their own pace, and our experienced staff use assessment carefully to ensure every child reaches their full potential. Children learn best when they are happy, safe, and secure. Our environment is planned to enable children the opportunity to extend and develop their thinking and learning across all areas of the curriculum. Although the resources in each area reflect a particular curricular area, they are planned together enabling children to consolidate and apply their learning in a way that makes sense to them. Your child will learn simple skills such as waiting, taking turns, and sharing. With guidance and care, they will develop the confidence to access and use resources independently choosing where to play, finding books, accessing the toilet, and putting on their coat
