Trillium School, founded in 1991, is an established, co-educational independent school serving students from toddlers to grade 12. The school is committed to developing the whole child through a balanced approach to education. Strong academics and high expectations are complemented by a comprehensive extra-curricular program that offers students a range of athletic, artistic, social, and life experiences.
Strong character development and good citizenship are integral to the school program and are continuously modeled by our team of professional, caring educators. Trillium has always boasted a supportive, ‘family-like atmosphere where students feel at ease and truly enjoy the whole school experience. Following graduation, alumni return to the school regularly to help out in a variety of volunteer roles, attesting to the bonds forged over the years.
Housed in a modern 32,000 square foot facility, the school features a full-sized gymnasium, a state-of-the-art computer room, a fully-equipped science lab, a music room, a library, and a fully contained schoolyard equipped with permanent play apparatus. Trillium is an independent, non-denominational school. It is registered with the Ontario Ministry of Education and a member of the Ontario Federation of Independent Schools.
Trillium School is committed to establishing within each of our students a strong foundation of work and study skills, a varied and extensive base of knowledge, and the ability to critically examine, discuss, and assess the world around them. These are skills that will always serve them well going forward.
Success in today’s modern, global economy, however, requires a new set of competencies too. Our team is committed to meeting this demand. We work hard to develop our students’ teamwork skills, their ability to adapt quickly to change and remain flexible in their thinking, as well as their proficiency in public speaking. Trillium’s senior students are directly taught the qualities that strong, effective leaders possess and are presented with numerous opportunities to practice their leadership skills.
Strong academics and good character – these are the hallmarks of Trillium School. By the time students graduate they will be global citizens, compassionate and tolerant in their perspective. They will have the self-confidence to try new things and the strong sense of self needed to drive them forward, always in pursuit of the highest in social, moral, and work standards.
Trillium’s Elementary program combines a rigorous and challenging academic component with a wealth of extra-curricular activities geared toward developing the whole child. The core program follows the expectations set out in the Ontario Curriculum but is enriched in the subjects of Language, Math, and French, where students work above grade level. Students follow a structured timetable that incorporates many extra-curricular subjects as well, including swimming and skating lessons, public library visits, leadership training, Industrial Arts, and Moral Studies.
Trillium high school provides an enriched, challenging academic program in a nurturing and stimulating learning environment. Students are encouraged to show initiative and leadership and challenge themselves to reach their full potential. A rigorous yet flexible curriculum is designed to help each student develop the skills and the confidence needed to attain success at university and in their future careers. Each student is expected to complete 30 credits from a variety of subjects to receive an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). There are 18 compulsory credits and 12 optional (elective) credits.
Community involvement activities are part of the school’s program. Students must complete a minimum of 40 hours of community service as part of the requirements for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). The purpose of the community involvement requirement is to encourage students to develop awareness and understanding of civic responsibility and of the role they can play and the contributions they can make in supporting and strengthening their communities. Our local partnerships provide opportunities for students to earn community service hours to foster their sense of community, as well as social and global awareness.
The Co-curricular program is an important facet of school life. Exposure to a wide variety of life experiences helps to broaden students’ perspectives and to make school life fun. In addition to regular school activities such as field trips and guest speaker forums, we offer an extensive array of co-curricular activities and after-school programs, both inside and outside of the classroom. Our goal is to deliver a curriculum that enables each student to become a successful learner, a confident individual, and a responsible citizen.
Students whose first language is not English may study English as a Second Language (ESL). We offer the ESL program to help advance international students’ English language proficiency. The program combines in-depth training in English language skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) at eight levels with a choice of electives to suit students’ individual needs. Electives include test preparation, language for business, and pronunciation. Students can enroll in part-time or full-time ESL programs.
We are committed to providing an immersive educational experience, especially for all international students. Our residences provide accommodation in a home-like setting where boarding students can find “A Home Away from Home”. Our boarding facilities provide students a safe and clean environment under the supervision of an affectionate resident warden to ensure that all students are well taken care of. Our weekend and evening programs offer different fun and educational activities that help ensure the best possible learning opportunities for the students.
Our high school is committed to helping each student with their university placement requirements. The University Preparation Program is designed to identify and prepare the Grades 11 and 12 students to reach their post-secondary goals. Experienced guidance counselors offer assistance to the students and help them select the most suitable programs for their college and university study
