    The Children’s Academy Bahrain is an independent school for children with mild to moderate learning difficulties who possess the cognitive skills to benefit from an academic program based on the British National Curriculum. It is affiliated with the prestigious Alpha Plus Group who runs independent schools in England.
    The Children’s Academy caters to pupils between the ages of 4 and 16 who struggle to achieve expected levels of attainment at school and for whom differentiation or unique pupil grouping in mainstream settings is not enough. Some pupils have specific learning needs associated with dyslexia, dyscalculia, or dyspraxia. Some have speech and language delays or low levels of concentration and self-esteem.
    The Children’s Academy provides an individualized education within a nurturing learning environment offering high levels of academic and therapeutic support. The school employs a physiotherapist, an occupational therapist, and two speech therapists who are timetabled to work alongside children in the classroom. At the heart of the school’s ethos is the belief that developing a positive self-image is the key to the development of a child’s full potential. To this end, the school is committed to providing an educational environment where all children can experience success.

The Children’s Academy Literacy & Numeracy Curriculum is based on that of the British National Curriculum National Literacy & Numeracy Strategies at Foundation Stage and Key Stages 1 – 4.
    We focus on developing children’s speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills through the National Literacy Strategy framework. This provides a clear and progressive structure through which children develop language and literacy skills. Teaching is structured in three closely interrelated strands of work: word level, sentence level, and text level. Word level work concentrates on phonics, word recognition, vocabulary extension, and handwriting. Sentence level work focuses on grammatical awareness and sentence construction. Text level work develops reading, comprehension and writing skills. Each child is taught at his or her level, using methods suited to his or her ability. We aim to teach children to communicate effectively through the use of speech and written text, in ways appropriate for different occasions and purposes to listen attentively and with understanding to acquire information from various sources and to record information and findings in various ways, and to read fluently and accurately, with understanding and enjoyment.
