Macquarie College is a part of the Seventh-day Adventist System of Schools. More broadly, it is part of an international network of Adventist institutions, including education, health, and aged care, which service Australia’s diverse communities, pursuing excellence in education, personal care, and health services.
The College is a member of the Hunter Region Independent Schools (HRIS) association, within the broader New South Wales Association of Independent School (AIS). Our students participate in academic and co-curricular programs and representative competitions. The College is located on an eight-hectare site on Lake Road, Wallsend. Nestled between the rapidly growing Lake Macquarie City Council and Newcastle City Council areas, the College services families from all points across the Hunter Valley, including Cessnock, Maitland, Newcastle, Swansea, and Cooranbong.
Macquarie College is supported by the Macquarie College Council, the Administration Committee, and the Education Administration Group. Further, the College is supported strategically and financially through the Macquarie College Foundation and the Parent & Teacher Association. Our mission is to provide a holistic, Adventist Christian education in which students’ individual needs are at the center of our decision-making, whether academic, spiritual, emotional, or culturally based. Approximately 60 Preschool, 370 Junior School, and 410 Senior School students enjoy the village-green styled Campus, which maximizes open, green spaces for group play and individual mindfulness.
First established in 1901, the mission of the College is to provide a holistic education that encourages a life-long commitment to Christian faith and service. It aims to produce people of conscience, compassion, competence, and commitment to making the world a better place.  The College has a proud record of outstanding academic results within a confidential and supportive environment for all students.
Macquarie College is committed to the holistic development of students within our care. We aim to optimize all children’s learning potential while building a faith community that seeks to know God and develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We form strong partnerships with parents to enhance our understanding of how each child learns and how best to cater to their individual needs. This three-way partnership ensures consistency in messages and is a vital means of supporting students in all aspects of their educational journey.
Curriculum content and teaching methodology cater to the different abilities and learning styles of every student. Learning attributes or “habits,” critical to long term success, are explicitly taught and practiced, creating an environment where children are highly engaged in their learning and strive for excellence in all they do.
This culture of excellence is nurtured throughout the K-12 school experience. The range of opportunities for extended learning and self-expression ensures every student can participate in the academic, sporting, cultural and spiritual programs to their fullest potential through to the conclusion of their Higher School Certificate.
We believe that social, physical, emotional, and spiritual development is vital to a balanced education approach. The Junior School delivers life-skills training through its Social Skills, Personal Development, and Chapel Programs to enable our students to develop personal confidence, interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, and emotional resilience.
Mentoring programs between Junior School and Senior School cohorts begins in Year 5 and progresses through to Year 12, ensuring that support, communication, and community building is a continuous journey. Students enjoy learning within a well-resourced environment, using iPads, laptops Chromebooks (or via a BYOD Program in Senior School) throughout their day. Students across the College can participate in weekly music classes, pursue music through a private lesson or join one of the many music groups, ensembles, or performance groups that entertain the College and the community.
