Job Description

Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband network connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. In this role as an SDM, you will be leading one of the core technical teams building the ground based traffic processing pipelines for connecting Kuiper’s satellite network to the external world. This opportunity will afford you an exciting leadership role in Project Kuiper that would enable you to help define and develop the interfaces, manage requirements, resourcing and prioritization and organize technical efforts across cross functional teams.

Key job responsibilities
* Lead a team that builds networking functions on AWS cloud infrastructure.
* Responsible for building CI/CD pipelines, test automation, and dashboards for monitoring health of systems and data pipelines for the services your team owns
* Hire, support and develop a team of exceptional software developers
* Define and own the multi-year vision and strategy for the team
* Manage resource allocation to meet our business goals
* Manage the software lifecycle of deliverables from concept to delivery and maintenance
* Maintain a culture of ownership in the team and set a high bar for architecture, design , and code reviews.

A day in the life

SDM’s at Project Kuiper work on delivering features working with various stakeholders and dependencies to their teams. They plan resource to project allocations and deliver projects with highest quality. They rally the team to maintain operational best practices to support a service in production for Kuiper’s customers. They define and own the roadmap for their teams and participate in future roadmap planning across Kuiper’s cross functional teams.

Basic Qualifications:

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- 5+ years of experience in a technical lead or management role designing and architecting (design patterns, reliability, scaling and operations) new and maintaining existing systems.
- Experience in building distributed infrastructure services on AWS, working on large-scale, high-performance systems in a complex, multi-tiered, distributed environment

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
- Experience with building Network Control Plane functions
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Track record of successfully delivering production software with high quality.
- Ability to regularly engage with senior stake holders and influence across the organization.
- Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills, with ability to work successfully across all engineering disciplines.
- High sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
