Disney Streaming is looking for a Software Engineer with a focus on data and machine learning engineering to join the Quality, Targeting, and Experience (QTE) organization inside Media Engineering.

 

QTE is an engineering group focused on managing the Quality of Experience for the customer’s media streaming experience. Our services provide the ability to indicate and impact stream quality on our products, and our research and innovations improve the overall quality of the media stream delivered to our customers. We also build systems which facilitate the ability to target and decision on unique needs, balancing our operational needs with real-time data that continually drives decisions for managing the media experience we deliver. We understand the media and delivery experiences which we can provide to our customers. With this knowledge, we seek to navigate new challenges and provide the best streaming experience every time. We have services which touch nearly every part of the playback stack from playback decisioning, all the way to the media player itself.

As a software engineer, you will work with all of the groups within QTE and coordinate with the Disney ML team. QTE runs several models to support our decision making process and in this role you will help to create, build, run, and manage models used by our group. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with a wide range of engineers, product managers, program managers, and researchers to help make sure that we are delivering the models which give us the most insight into our data. As this role will support models that are used in our work, this is a critical position for our organization.

Requirements 

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science-related field or equivalent work experience

• 3+ years of experience in a development background

• Experience with Spark

• Experience with Airflow

• Experience with Streaming Data Infrastructure (Kinesis or Kafka)

• Understanding of source control concepts and exposure to Git

• Experience deploying and optimizing machine learning models 

• Experience with Python

Nice to have 

• Experience with AWS

• Experience with Clickhouse/Druid/Equivalent

• Experience with data pipelines and finite state machines

• Experience in telemetry data from millions of devices 

• Experience in video streaming

The hiring range for this position in Seattle, WA and in New York City, NY is $142,516 to $191,180 per year; the hiring range for this position in Santa Monica/Burbank/Glendale/L.A., California and in Bristol, Connecticut is $136,038 to $182,490; and the hiring range for this position in San Francisco, California is $148,994 to $199,870 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
