Job Summary
 

We are looking for a Director of Comms and Social to join our team who loves streaming great TV and brings a deep understanding of comms, social media and influencer marketing. You will lead a team of 20 between Disney+ and our linear channel business.

Working closely with the VP, your role is responsible for EMEA and UK output of Disney+ brand and content campaigns.

The opporutunity for you

  • Lead Comms, Social and Influencer for Disney+ including Regional and UK Consumer Publicity in close partnership with the VP, Marketing for Direct-to-Consumer across the region
  • Determine and prioritize support for a broad content portfolio at regional and UK level across press, social and influencer
  • Devise cohesive and innovative publicity and socially driven campaigns, working collaboratively with marketing, social, corporate communications, independent production companies, agents, personal publicists and US based teams as required (LA, New York and Washington DC) 
  • Manage strategies and campaigns to cover all press, social, digital media and influencer networks to reach target audiences – with a focus on creativity and quality
  • Build and maintain excellent working relationships with journalists across the full range of media, external stakeholders, influencers and industry personnel that benefit the communications team
  • Financial and budget management for all activity that this role is accountable for
  • Shape a creative and media-relations driven team and culture
  • Accountability for multiple agency relationships across the PR, social and influencer marketplace
  • Oversee the team’s workloads, set priorities and provide leadership, resolving any issues which arise, while ensuring performance is consistently managed and measured appropriately
  • Role will work closely with other Comms teams responsible for Disney+ content including local original content and Studios, along with a close working relationship with VP, Comms, EMEA
  • You will provide leadership to four direct reports who lead other professional staff with accountability for their performance
  • Potential travel required as business dependencies dictate and attend industry meetings as required

Strategic planning

  • Work with the EMEA leadership team to develop annual strategic comms plans that reflect the overall segment annual planning process
  • Determine and develop annual budget requirements.  Manage and ensure budgets are appropriately tracked throughout the year
  • Develop creative campaign strategies that meet the business objectives and set KPIs for specific campaigns and teams across Disney+ and our Media Networks business

Campaign delivery

  • Oversee the creation of strategic media engagement programmes focused around delivering positive standout coverage
  • Approve media materials including press releases, Q&A documents and reactive statements
  • Leverage strong consumer PR experience, talent and events to promote the Media Networks portfolio as DTC.  Also including specific support for Nat Geo – advancing the interest of Nat Geo Partners and the Nat Geo Society in the region.
  • Support fantastic team at PR events including junkets ensuring successful outcomes
  • Manage relationships with external agencies, guide them on delivering the best results and ensure appropriate service levels / value for money
  • Review campaign performance and lessons to enhance the success of future campaigns
  • Demonstrate the value of the PR and the PR team’s work to the business

Team management

  • Lead Regional/UK Team and work with Disney+ leads in markets ensuring support on campaigns
  • Inspire and mentor team to ensure they perform to their full potential, oversee workloads, set priorities and provide leadership on resolving any issues which arise
  • Provide the team with regular communication on developments both internally and externally 
  • Manage any performance related issues within the team

Internal relationships & executive support

  • Provide guidance and professional expertise to support the development of internal comms for this part of the business
  • Ensure the Disney+ leadership team is informed on relevant issues and competitor activity
  • Provide guidance and professional expertise to support the development of internal communications

Issues management

  • Work with corporate communications to offer advice and guidance to the Disney+ leadership team on issues that arise providing messaging, internal announcements and press statements and recommendations on the best/most appropriate platforms on which to communicate both internally and externally
  • Proactively trouble shoot on issues providing advice and guidance to the business
  • Monitor the news agenda closely – and demonstrate a good understanding of the industry  

Ideal experience

  • A strategic communications professional with outstanding track record of success, some of which will have been gained working in (or with) a large, complex, matrix organisation
  • Experience in working in a direct-to-consumer/entertainment business or agency
  • A deep knowledge of how consumer stories/campaigns are developed and play out across all media channels including PR, social and influencer
  • A blend of in-house and agency experience preferred
  • Experience of managing a PR and social team with their respective agencies
  • Proven track record for delivering successful pan-regional communications campaigns
  • A dynamic approach with proven leadership qualities, top level influencing skills and the ability to operate effectively in a collaborative, fast moving environment
  • Able to demonstrate broad cultural awareness and sensitivity to support international working and development
  • Ability to demonstrate the qualities of both strategic thinking and implementation, with sound commercial business skills
  • Ability to work in a creative way, with enthusiasm in their approach and the ability to inspire these qualities in the team
  • Proven strategic insight, with ability to see the bigger picture and always be thinking about the ‘big idea’ that will take the Communications team to the next level
  • Ability to multitask, using own outstanding written and media relations skills with the day to day quality control of the team
  • Ensure all written work, creative ideas and media relations skills are implemented successfully to help Disney achieve outstanding results
