About the internship 

This is a 13-month fixed-term placement suitable for students currently studying a sandwich degree course in a relevant discipline and is targeted at 2nd year students enrolled in a 4 years bachelor's degree or enrolled in Master’s Integrated Course which includes a year in industry (or equivalent). 

We ask that all applicants are current university students and will remain students during the whole internship. Candidates must be based in the UK upon the start date of this internship, and for its entire duration.  

We are unable to support remote working from outside the UK.

We're looking for someone who has a keen interest in computer hardware and software and wants to do hands on work developing future computing platforms. You will be a member of a team which specializes in the design and support of computer platforms (both hardware/software) for a wide range of next generation Intel products supporting major European customers. You will be involved in lab activities, working with the team and actively participating in customer support.

We have multiple technical positions available :

Platform support engineer

  • Working with customers to help them design in products including board level schematic design and review, troubleshooting with issue replication and debugging

  • Working on next generation proof of concept and demo designs with sales teams and key customers

  • Gaining a deeper understanding of PC hardware from desktop to server, along with network architecture

  • Working and influencing engineering and product design teams

  • Working within a global organization with teams based in multiple time zones

  • Providing lab support to the team

Consumer Technical Sales Engineer

  • Building the latest Desktop PCs with yet-to-be released components

  • Handling and preparing the latest notebook and mobile devices

  • Working with colleagues or customers to find a technical solution to a sales or marketing problem

  • Assisting the delivery of showcases and demos to a large audience of Intel's customers.

  • Collecting performance data and analysing the results

  • Analysing and interpreting system configuration sales trends for products in the consumer segment

Datacenter Technical sales engineer

  • Operating as an engineer within a private cloud computing datacentre, with day-to-day tasks including:

    • Onboarding and supporting hosted customers testing Intel technologies

    • Building and deployment of servers with bespoke hardware, software & networking specifications

    • Supporting workloads including high performance compute, virtualisation and artificial intelligence

  • There is scope for getting involved in other exciting projects outside of day-to-day responsibilities.

Qualifications:

We welcome applications from candidates with: 

  • Familiarity with computer architecture hardware/software from desktop to server hardware

  • Work through complex problems and innovate.

  • Ability to build and debug typical PC hardware and install and debug typical operating systems, including both Microsoft Windows, Google Android and Lynx

  • Genuine passion for technology and a curiosity to understand how it works, with a hands-on approach

  • Ability to grow your knowledge and continuously learn as the role and technology evolves.

  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with both customers and engineers

  • Confident working in a customer facing environment

  • Capable of working unsupervised by prioritizing work and focusing on meeting agreed objectives in required time-frame with good attention to detail.

  • Ability to work in a team

  • Strong organisational skills or Project management

This role will be eligible for our hybrid work model which allows employees to split their time between working on-site at their assigned Intel site and off-site. In certain circumstances the work model may change to accommodate business needs.
